Government of Gujarat has established Gujarat Biodiversity Board (GBB) in the year 2006 . The board is headed by a Chairman, who is an eminent person having knowledge and experience in sustainable management of Biodiversity. Presently Shri Ram Kumar IFS, PCCF & Chairman (i/c) is working as the Chairman of the Board & Shri P.G.Gardi, IFS, working as Member Secretary (i/c) of the Board. The Gujarat Biodiversity Boards (GBB) focus on advising the State Government, subject to any guidelines issued by the Central Government, on matters relating to the conservation of biodiversity, sustainable use of its components and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of biological resources
The Gujarat Biodiversity Boards (GBB) also regulate, by granting of approvals or otherwise upon requests for commercial utilization or bio-survey and bio-utilization of any biological resource by the citizens of Gujarat . The local level Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) are responsible for promoting conservation, sustainable use and documentation of biological diversity including preservation of habitats, conservation of land races, folk varieties and cultivars, domesticated stocks and breeds of animals and microorganisms and chronicling of knowledge relating to biological diversity. GBB Mission :

• Fair and equitable share of benefits arrival the use of Biodiversity
GBB Vision :
Biodiversity, its social significance and importance be primarily understood by people of Gujarat, be realistically conserved, restored, maintained, valued, and continue to deliver benefits to society at large on a sustainable basis, while retaining and fulfilling simultaneously, its ecosystemic functions which are paramount.
