Have submitted a proposal and also thanked for considering Sikkim to be included in the Buddhist circuit which has been a long impending dream of mine as those who follow my posts would know ..
“I am writing to respectfully propose the introduction of Digital Nomad Visas and Creative Visas in India as a forward looking policy reform that can significantly enhance GST revenue, promote sustainable regional development and strengthen India’s global economic positioning.
With the rapid growth of remote work and global creative economies, professionals such as software developers, designers, writers, filmmakers, artists, researchers and cultural entrepreneurs increasingly seek countries that permit long term legal stay while earning income from foreign sources. While India remains a highly attractive destination due to its culture, safety, affordability and natural diversity, the absence of a formal visa framework prevents the country from fully benefiting from this global shift.
Introducing such visas would bring direct economic benefits, especially to smaller and hill states like Sikkim, where industrial expansion is limited. Long stay digital nomads and creatives contribute consistently to GST through spending on accommodation, food, transport, internet services, co working spaces, healthcare, tourism and local services. This consumption driven revenue model allows states to increase earnings without environmental degradation.
Additionally, these visas can generate local employment, encourage knowledge exchange and support cultural preservation by strengthening creative industries, wellness tourism and indigenous art forms. Border and hill states would particularly benefit through population retention, economic vibrancy and enhanced soft power.”
