Government of India is taking several initiatives to promote mass adoption of Electric Vehicles (EV) to achieve sustainability and energy security. Further, it shall also combat air pollution and climate change. EVs emit no polluting gases and the running cost is also considerably low compared to the vehicles run on fossil fuels. Several studies have revealed that people shall adapt to using Electric Vehicles only when charging infrastructures are in place, as the major obstacle to mass adoption of EVs is its km range anxiety.
Considering this, POWERGRID, shall develop EV Charging infrastructures across India to facilitate E-mobility in Indian roads covering 2-Wheelers, Rickshaws/Autos, Taxis, Cars, Buses etc. In addition, as India is aiming at high Renewable Energy pe*******on, channelizing this energy to EV, the net CO2 generation can be brought down to almost zero. Further, with Vehicle to Grid (V2G) concept, EVs can also help in stabilization of grid. With adoption on EV, the per capita consumption of electricity in the country is also expected to increase considerably in future.
POWERGRID has signed an agreement with L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd. in developing EV Charging infrastructure at its Metro Stations. This shall help the metro commuters in availing Electric Vehicles as first and last mile connectivity. Electric Taxi operators have also shown interest in deploying E-Taxis to facilitate the customers.
POWERGRID plans to build EV Charging infrastructure at all metro rail corridors. POWERGRID shall develop two charging stations at Miyapur and Bala Nagar Metro Station at Hyderabad this month. POWERGRID is also closely working with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for establishment of bulk charging and battery swapping station for three wheelers at Gurugram. POWERGRID is also in advance talks with Chennai Metro Rail Corporation to set-up EV charging facilities. To cater the needs of present available vehicle types, POWERGRID shall deploy Bharat Charger DC-001. As market evolves POWERGRID shall deploy all kinds of chargers meeting international standards for all type of Electric Vehicles.
