Object of the Week

Ambassador of Finland to India, Mr. Kimmo Lähdevirta, accompanied by his wife, Ms. Pia Kaikonen, and the Principal of Finesse School, Guwahati, Mr. Juha Valta, visited the Assam State Museum today. The distinguished delegates were taken on a curated walk through the museum’s galleries, where they explored its rich collection of artefacts reflecting the region’s cultural heritage.
During their visit, the delegation also visited the artist studio and the conservation laboratory, gaining insight into the creative and conservation processes undertaken by the museum. The visit concluded with engaging deliberations between the delegates and museum officials, focusing on potential avenues for future collaborations, fostering cultural exchange and learning opportunities.

Shri Arindom Barua, Director of Museums, Assam along with Shri Pragyan Kranti Kalita, Assistant Architect visited the Bordowa Mini Museum at Bordowa today (17/3/26) and inspected the ongoing renovation work of the museum.

Shortlisted candidates are invited to attend the Walk-in-Interview on 11th of March, 2026 10:00 AM onwards at the Directorate of Museums, Assam, Guwahati, for the Late Rai Bahadur Naupat Rai Kedia Memorial Internship Programme and the Late Dr. Surya Kumar Bhuyan Memorial Internship Programme of the Assam State Museum Management Society. The 10-day Workshop on “Dhokra Art: The Art of Lost-Wax Metal Casting”, organised by the Directorate of Museums, Assam under the Department of Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture, Government of Assam, got under way on 01.03.2026 with enthusiastic participation from students across the state.

The workshop aims to promote and preserve the traditional craft of Dhokra through hands-on training and expert guidance.

The Directorate of Museums, Assam successfully concluded its 5-day Capacity Building Workshop on “Curatorial Design and Gallery Development” (21.02.2026–26.02.2026). Envisioned as a platform to strengthen professional competencies in museum practice and enhance institutional standards, the workshop encouraged meaningful dialogue among museum professionals across the state.

Through intensive sessions, discussions, and practical engagements, participants explored the fundamentals of gallery design, artefact handling and care, preventive conservation, display methodologies, and broader aspects of heritage management. The programme aimed to foster innovation and support the development of more research-driven, engaging, and visitor-centric gallery spaces across Assam.

Shri Satyajith Ibn, Museum Architect and Developer beautifully conducted this workshop over these 5 days, at the end of which, certificates were distributed to the participants.
