Mallawan is a historic place in Hardoi District of Uttar Pradesh and is south-east of Hardoi. Mallawan is located 20 km south-east of Hardoi. It was an erstwhile district headquarters and a Buddhist colony in the past. Some historians add that Sayyed Salar Masood Gazi had visited this place. Nearest airport is at Lucknow. Mallanwam Railway Station is on the Unnao-Balamu line. Mallawan is the place of historical significance. According to some historians Mallawan was colonized by Buddhists while some believed that Sayyed Salar Masood Gazi came here. Earlier this area Mallawan was district headquarter. The ancient name of Bilgram(Tehsil of Mallawan) is "SRINAGAR" its present name Bilgram was given by some associates of .Mahmood Gajnavi. History
The population of Mallawan in 1901 was 11,158. Under native rule the town possessed considerable political importance, and upon the British annexation of Oudh it was selected as the headquarters of the district, but was abandoned in favor of Hardoi after the Mutiny. Saltpetre and brass utensils are traditionally manufactured in this city.

#In February 1856, Hardoi, as a part of Oudh, became part of the British territory after Lord Dalhousies proclamation. The headquarters of the district was at first Mallawon, but then it became Hardoi after the Sepoy Mutiny( First freedom struggle in 1857 ).

#Hardoi is first mentioned during the Muslim colonisation. In 1028, Bwan was invaded by Sayyid Salara Masgud. However, Muslim didn’t occupy the region until 1217. Many battles between the Mogul and Afghan empires took place in Hardoi district due to the situation of the district. Humayun defeated Sher Shah Suri between the cities of Bilgram and Sandi.
