The Indian Freedom Fighters Foundation
The Foundation has been established to enlighten the younger generation about the role played by freedom fighters, especially Muslims, in achieving freedom for our country. The Battle of Plassey, fought in 1757, was one of the earliest battles against British rule, led by Siraj-ud-Daulah. The second major war for freedom was led by the last Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, in 1857. Thousands of Ulema and Muslim scholars laid down their lives for the freedom of our country. There are also many unseen and unsung heroes of the freedom movement. The Foundation aims to highlight the role played by these freedom fighters. Since it may not be possible for any government to publish the stories of all freedom fighters, the Foundation will adopt various means to share this information with students and the general public. We have taken images from Indian history books and other historical sources for educational and informational purposes. If you own any content used on this page, please message us with valid proof and complete documents. We will either add proper credit/link to the content or repost it with your name. The Government has appointed Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, PVSM, AVSM, VM, VSM, presently serving as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff, in the rank of Air Chief Marshal, with effect from the afternoon of October 31, 2026.

Moulvi Syed Allavuddin and Revolutionary Leader Pathan Turrebaz Khan

On Friday, 17 July 1857, at around 5:00 PM, nearly 600 Muslims gathered at Mecca Masjid and decided to attack the British Residency army camp. The march started from Mecca Masjid towards Sultan Bazaar. The freedom fighters marched ahead with slogans against the British Army. The attack was successful, and many British soldiers were killed.

Thereafter, Moulvi Syed Allavuddin and Turrebaz Khan went underground to seek shelter. Eventually, the British Army arrested Moulvi Allavuddin. He was caught near Mangalampally and imprisoned in the Kala Pani Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 28 June 1859. After leading a miserable life for 25 years, he passed away in 1884.

Turrebaz Khan escaped; however, he was later shot dead near Toopran in Medak district. His body was dragged back and hanged near the British Residency building. The Turrebaz Khan Cenotaph still stands near Kothi Bus Stand. He was a resident of Putli Bowli, Sultan Bazaar.
