Director General's Message
WALAMTARI is one of the only four Apex Training Institutions in Andhra Pradesh. Being designated as Apex Institute gives one pride to work in. At the same time, it also places greater responsibility on us to work towards its sustained growth to deserve this designation. WALAMTARI started functioning from 1983 and had its glory reach a peak within a decade to be rated as one of the best among the WALMIs/IMTIs in India.
Many National Workshops and Seminars were held here in the past. In the past two years, efforts are being made by us to bring the Institute to its past glory both in terms of activity level as well as quality of work. We are fortunate to have constant support of the Government of Andhra Pradesh not only in financial terms but also in guiding to shape the future of this Institute. The I & CAD Department is the third largest department in A.P and is mandated with all aspects of water resources management. The "Jalayagnam" programme started since 2004-05 gave tremendous boost to creating new irrigation potential as well as stabilizing existing ayacut. The Department had been a pioneer in innovations and the Externally Aided Projects like APILIP, APCBTMP, APWSIP etc., are only furthering this quest for working on newer areas of challenges. Most of these innovations need to be taken to scale and this is where WALAMTARI becomes the common point in capacity building, documentation and dissemination. WALAMTARI carries this mammoth task through a network of Field Training Centres in a decentralized manner. In the coming months, we will focus on strengthening of our Faculty base, Institute Research Fellowship Programme, establish multi-disciplinary centres to provide quality services to our clientele. Climate change related work would also come up as a prominent area. I hope you will find this website quite simple and easy to navigate through.
