IIRR in its 50th year of useful existence has contributed significantly in overall rice production front which has ensured food security for the country.

Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR) formerly DRR, was established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in 1965 with its national headquarters at Hyderabad.

A team of scientists comprising Dr. Mangal Deep Tuti, Dr. Bandeppa, two scientists from NBPGR, Regional Station, Hyderabad and scientists from SKLTGHU organized a Khet Bachao Abhiyan (KBA) programme on 02 June 2026 at Chilla Sagar village, Mulug Mandal, Siddipet District, Telangana.
The programme aimed to reduce farmers’ dependency on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, promote soil health, lower cultivation costs, and enhance farmers’ income. During the meeting, information was provided on the importance and use of biofertilizers, leaf colour chart, nutrient use-efficient rice cultivars, Integrated pest management and sustainable DSR production.
A demonstration on the use of a Rapid Soil Test Kit was also conducted to train farmers on assessing soil nutrient status and adopting site-specific nutrient management practices. The programme witnessed active participation from around 30 farmers, who interacted with the scientists and sought technical guidance on sustainable farming practices.
The event was attended by village representatives, including Sarpanch Bal Reddy, Vice Sarpanch and Village Secretary, along with other ward members.

A team of scientists comprising Dr. Brajendra, Dr. Jyothi Badri, Dr. Satish Chavan, and Dr. Jagriti Rohit organized a Khet Bachao Abhiyan (KBA) programme on 02 June 2026 at Gollur village, Maheshwaram Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, Telangana.

The programme aimed to reduce farmers dependency on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, promote soil health, lower cultivation costs, and enhance farmers income. During the meeting, information was provided on the importance and use of biofertilizers, nutrient use-efficient rice cultivars, Integrated pest management and green manuring crops for sustainable rice production.

The programme witnessed active participation from around 52 farmers, who interacted with the scientists and sought technical guidance on sustainable farming practices.

ICAR-IIRR conducted the Kethi Bachavo Abhiyan program at Kanha Shanti Vanam on 1st June 2026. The event was attended by Dr. Sai Prasad, Dr. Brajendra, Dr. Bandeppa, Dr. Papa Rao, and Dr. Kavi Raju from ICAR-IIRR. Faculty members and Dr. Narsi Reddy, Vice Chancellor of Hari University, accompanied the program.
Technical sessions were delivered by ICAR-IIRR scientists: Dr. Sai Prasad trained the farmers on fertilizer-friendly varieties developed at ICAR-IIRR, Dr. Brajendra explained the importance and use of soil testing kits, Dr. Bandeppa provided information on microbial based biofertilizers, and Dr. Papa Rao shared details of the recently developed genome-edited rice variety KAMALA. Dr. Kavi Raju trained the farmers on direct seeded rice (DSR) method of rice cultivation.
Altogether, 60 farmers and students (50 female/ 10 male) actively participated and were trained in the program.

प्रिय किसान बहनों और भाइयों,

धरती हमारी माँ है। यही खेत हमें अन्न, फल-सब्ज़ी और जीवन देते हैं। लेकिन केमिकल फर्टिलाइज़र और पेस्टिसाइड के असंतुलित उपयोग से धरती माँ की उर्वरा शक्ति लगातार कम हो रही है।

माननीय प्रधानमंत्री श्री जी के आह्वान पर 1 जून से 30 जून तक पूरे देश में 'खेत बचाओ अभियान' चलाया जाएगा। इस अभियान के तहत कृषि वैज्ञानिक, कृषि विश्वविद्यालयों के विशेषज्ञ, कृषि विज्ञान केंद्र (KVK), केंद्र एवं राज्य सरकार के अधिकारी, जनप्रतिनिधि और प्रगतिशील किसान गाँव-गाँव जाकर किसानों को संतुलित खाद उपयोग, नकली पेस्टिसाइड की पहचान और वैज्ञानिक खेती की जानकारी देंगे।

आप सभी से आग्रह है कि इस अभियान से जुड़ें, वैज्ञानिक सलाह के अनुसार खाद का उपयोग करें और धीरे-धीरे प्राकृतिक खेती की ओर बढ़ें।
