Remembering Irawat is an act of active resistance against any form of injustice. He was a political genius who moved with his times dialectically along with the people. He embodies the actualisation of a high form of political consciousness and its praxis.

We warmly invite all our members to visit our library and join us for a candle lighting ceremony at 5 PM.

Professor Bryce Beemer delivered a profoundly insightful talk titled ‘From Meitei to Kathe: Manipuri War Captives, Cultural Exchange, and Reflections on Manipur’s Religious History’. He delved into the nuances of creolisation of Meitei culture and religion into a site-specific Kathe form embodied by the Manipuri war captives—this transformation itself producing its own adaptive subjectivities. He argued against reductionist binaries of the “pure” and its opposite when excavating the multiple pasts, as they actually were and as we see now, of cultural and religious transformations in war-displaced communities. His final gesture, at the end of his talk, expressing his desire to return to Manipur and engage further with the scholars is greatly appreciated for his intellectual humility, camaraderie and openness.

For this batch, 16 interns have been selected to work on the metadata of the Korbek Archive. Welcome to all our interns. With your contributions, we hope to catalogue thousands of Manipur’s pre-printing press manuscript and make them accessible to the public & researchers very easily.

For now, we have catalogued only 100 manuscripts in our web catalogue. Check the site in our bio.

A big thank you to Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club for facilitating the ARC Manipuri Pony Trail Adventure at Nongmaiching Hill. We had a wonderful experience and truly enjoyed the ride!

The Manipuri Pony is one of India’s five recognised indigenous equine breeds and is widely recognised as the original polo pony. Its population had declined to around 1000, largely due to the disappearance of wetlands in the Manipuri, which are an important part of its natural habitat.

The Manipuri Pony is semi-feral by nature, and understanding its traditional relationship with the landscape and the Meitei people is an important part of our research.
