According to the chargesheet, the attack was planned to create a deadly kill zone, leaving 26 people dead, including 25 tourists.

Major General Sachin Mehta, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Indian Armyโs 3 Infantry Division, survived a Cheetah helicopter crash in Ladakhโs Tangste sector along with two Army aviators โ a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major who were piloting the aircraft. The helicopter reportedly crashed during an operational sortie in eastern Ladakh, one of the most challenging high-altitude regions for military aviation. Despite the difficult terrain and operational risks, all three occupants escaped with minor injuries and were able to walk away from the wreckage.
The incident gained widespread attention after an image showing Major General Sachin Mehta and the officers safe after the crash surfaced online, symbolising composure and survival under extreme conditions. The Army has ordered a formal inquiry to determine the cause of the accident. The crash has also renewed concerns regarding the ageing Cheetah and Chetak helicopter
