Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, IIT Indore hosted a heartfelt farewell ceremony for its graduating students (UG, PG, and PhD) on April 23, 2026. The evening was both enjoyable and memorable, filled with warmth, reflection, and celebration.
Students fondly shared their journeys and cherished moments at IIT Indore, reflecting on experiences that shaped their academic and personal growth, while faculty members and staff addressed and guided them.

Dr. Srimanta Barui, Manager, R&D at H&R Johnson Division, Prism Johnson Ltd visited us on April 22, 2026 to deliver an expert talk titled "Additive Manufacturing of Biomaterials in Tissue Engineering."
Dr. Barui presented a physics and design-driven framework that treats AM as a quantitative engineering science.

Prof. Ravi Kumar, Professor at NIT Hamirpur, visited our department on April 9, 2026, to deliver an expert talk titled “Exposition of p-Type Transparent Conducting and Dilute Magnetic Oxides.”
During the session, Prof. Kumar discussed the fundamental origins of Transparent Conducting Oxides (TCOs). He highlighted the challenges involved in developing p-type TCOs and explained their significance in advanced materials research.
At the end of the talk, Prof. Kumar addressed and clarified the queries raised by the students.

Dr. Richard Thackray, Senior Lecturer in Metallurgy and Metals Production at the University of Sheffield, visited us on February 23, 2026, to deliver an expert talk titled “Building a Greener Tomorrow: The Future of Sustainable Steel Production.”
The talk introduced key advances shaping the future of steel production, beginning with a brief overview of traditional steelmaking routes and their environmental impacts. It also explored innovative technologies and sustainable practices aimed at reducing carbon emissions and improving resource efficiency within the industry.
The session concluded by highlighting emerging collaboration opportunities for students and researchers in this rapidly evolving field.

Indian Institute of Technology Indore celebrated its 17th Foundation Day on February 17, 2026. The occasion was graced by Dr. Sharad Kumar Saraf, Chairman of the Board of Governors (BoG), IIT Jammu, and Chairman and Managing Director of Technocraft Group, along with Shri Saket Chaturvedi, CEO (MiG Complex), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
The following achievements of the department were recognized during the event:
a) Prof. Sunil Kumar and Mr. Asish K. Das (Research Scholar) received the Best Technology Award 2026 for their work titled “High-Entropy Garnet Electrolyte for Solid-State Batteries.”
b) Prof. Parasharam M. Shirage and his research group received the Best Research Paper Award 2026 for their paper titled “Heteroatom Doping Strategy for Enhanced Sodium-Ion Storage in Na2Fe1.5Mn1.5(PO4)3.”

Prof. Chuan-Pu Liu, Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan, visited us on February 10, 2026. During his visit, he explored the laboratories and facilities available in the department, followed by an interactive session with the faculty members.

The Department of MEMS hosted its second Department Day – AYAS 2.0 on February 08, 2026. The day was dedicated to fostering team spirit, camaraderie, and healthy competition through a blend of sports and cultural activities.
Participants including students, staff and faculties of the department competed in four spirited teams—Nano Warriors, Lattice Legends, Graphene Gladiators, and Alloy Avengers.
Congratulations to the team Nano Warriors for emerging as the overall champion of AYAS 2.0!
The department thanks all the volunteers and participants for making this day full of fun and remarkable!

We were delighted to welcome Dr. Bhanu Pant, Visiting Professor at IIT Roorkee and former Outstanding Scientist and Group Director, VSSC, ISRO, who visited us on February 05, 2026 to deliver an expert talk titled “Space Technology and Materials Development.”
The talk focused on the evolution of ISRO’s programs related to materials technology development over more than four decades.
Students actively engaged in the session by asking questions about various ISRO missions and the importance of materials and metallurgical processes associated with them.
At the end of the session, Dr. Bhanu Pant interacted with the faculty members.
