District Administration, Jorhat in collaboration with District Museum, Jorhat and Cultural Development Office, Jorhat celebrated the World Heritage Week in Sarojini Devi Girls High School, Kenduguri , Jorhat . On this occasion, District Museum Officer, Jorhat, Smt Abantika Parashar delivered an interactive lecture demonstration on what is heritage and its significance as a cultural identity. Heritage worker and conservator Shri Avinibesh Sharma also delivered an interesting lecture and showcased old digital prints of the 1st daily newspaper of Assam ‘ Dainik Batori’, that was published from Jorhat . The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Smt Utpala Bora, Head Mistress of the school.

District Museum, Jorhat today organised a special programme in collaboration with Prachyabidyarnav Dr. Maheshwar Neog Assamtatta Gawexana Sansthan of Axom Sahitya Sabha and Charigaon Girls High School in the school campus to celebrate the ‘ Bhawan Gaurav Saptah’.The programme was moderated by Dr Rajshri Hazarika, Coordinator of the Gawexona Sanstha. District Museum Officer Abantika Parashar in her welcome speech explained the importance and process of heritage preservation, preservation of oral literature and donation of resources to museums. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Ratul Chandra Bora, a prominent researcher of Sankari literature. It was followed by an Extempore Speech competition among the students of the school based on Jatua-Thach and Dakor Boson (Assamese proverbs). The competition was moderated by renowned writer and educationist Dr. Aditi Bezbarua. She spoke at length about the importance of preservation and application of vernacular language. Ms. Mitali Saikia , Secretary, Jorhat District Sahitya Sabha spoke about the significance of oral literature and intangible cultural heritage.

District Musuem, Jorhat today successfully hosted the Fourth Gautam Bordoloi Memorial Lecture in Devi Charan Barua Girls’ College, Jorhat, which was organized in collaboration with the Department of History and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Devi Charan Barua Girls' College . Eminent epigrapher, Shri Bhaskar Bordoloi delivered the Memorial Lecture on "Epigraphic Study of Assam from the Perspectives of Language, Script, and History." Geologist and historian Dr. Raktim Ranjan Saikia of Jagannath Baruah University , author Shri Uttam Bordoloi and Principal of the college Dr. Jinamoni Bhuyan graced the event as guests of honour.

Attended by academicians, historians , archaeologists, heritage enthusiasts and students , the lecture highlighted the significance of archaeological evidences in the systematic study of the Assamese language.

The event was a tribute to the classical language status accorded to the Assamese language which was officially declared yesterday.

District Museum, Jorhat is organising the 4th Gautam Bordoloi Memorial Lecture in collaboration with Department of History and I.Q.A.C., DCB Girls’ College , Jorhat , on 4th October, 2024 (11AM onwards). Eminent epigrapher Shri Bhaskar Bordoloi will speak on 'Epigraphic Study of Assam from the Perspectives of Language, Script, and History’. We invite all interested to participate in the programme.
