STPI-Kolkata is the 10th jurisdictional directorate that has been playing a significant role in promoting IT/ITeS exports from West Bengal since its inception during FY 1995-96. Apart from Kolkata, STPI centres under this jurisdictional directorate are operational at Durgapur, Haldia, Kharagpur, and Silguri in West Bengal.

Over the years, STPI-Kolkata has played a very important role to promote the region as a preferred IT destination and act as single window agency for IT/ITeS industry by putting new milestones in IT exports of the state. During 1995-96, STPI-Kolkata started with 25 approved units with IT/ITeS esports contributing to Rs. 7.61 crore. In FY 2020-21, STPI-registered units under STPI-Kolkata jurisdiction contributed Rs. 7,372.57 crore IT/ITeS/ESDM exports.
