To enable small businesses and entrepreneurs from West Bengal and to expand their businesses globally through e-commerce exports, WBIDC, Amazon Global Selling and FICCI jointly organized an e-Export Haat on June 8, 2023, at Silpa Sadan in Kolkata. This event was conceptualized as a knowledge-sharing, training, and capacity-building forum to enable small businesses from the state to create robust exports businesses and global brands.
Those present were Hon’ble Minister Dr. Shashi Panja, Principal Secretary Ms. Vandana Yadav, Bhupen Wakankar - Director, Global Trade Amazon India,and Rudra Chatterjee, Chairman, FICCI.

The chief of the country’s largest conglomerates, based out of Kolkata, ITC Ltd chairman and managing director Sanjiv Puri said the company will accelerate investments, which had slowed during the pandemic, with a corpus of around Rs 3,000 crore annually for the next few years, primarily for building manufacturing capacities and accelerating growth.
ITC’s investment plans also include a Personal Care Products Facility in West Bengal.

Kolkata-based Bisk Farm, India's 4th largest biscuit player, aims for a Rs 5,000-crore topline and an entrance onto the bourses through a public offer as it expands its client base nationwide.
With a 4% national market share, it is the fourth largest biscuit player in the organized sector, behind Parle, Britannia, and ITC (Sunfeast).
With four plants in Bengal, SAJ is set to increase its revenue by 22% this fiscal year.

The government of West Bengal releases a tender for a second unit of 1000 MW, adding to the 900MW pump storage facility at Purulia.
The state has announced its intentions towards a decarbonisation policy for a major shift to renewable and other clean sources for energy generation. In Bengal, renewable energy accounts for only 1% of total energy use.
The new policy will create a roadmap for a seamless energy transition and further aims at flattening the peak power demand curve with renewable energy generation. This policy can help stabilise the grid and reduce coal consumption and maintenance costs.

On March 15, 2023, the Industry Promotion Board met at Nabanna Sabhaghar. The Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal presided over the meeting, which was attended by Hon'ble Ministers from various departments, top officials, industrialists, and members from Chambers of Commerce.
The agenda was to discuss the Development of the Industrial and Economic Corridors to make West Bengal one of the top Industrial destinations in the country.
The WB government is set to develop three corridors in South Bengal as the first phase of the project. 398 km, Dankuni – Kalyani Corridor : 43 Kms and Dankuni –Kharagpur Corridor : 160 Kms.
The government is also developing a 639-kilometer-long commercial and industrial corridor from Darjeeling More to Cooch Behar in North Bengal.
Two other industrial and economic corridors are in the development stages: Purulia-Howrah along the proposed Varanasi-Kolkata highway: 234 km and Kharagpur-Moregram: 230 km, Murshidabad.
The land parcel to be taken up under the Corridor is being projected on a GIS-based portal to allow investors to designate their preferred locations. In addition to the land's location, the portal will show critical elements of the project area such as accessibility, infrastructure availability, and key dimensions, and will be updated in real-time.
Developing industrial corridors would boost economic activity, and improve connectivity with surrounding industrial zones and complementary infrastructure such as logistic parks, townships, and other urban amenities.
More than two lakh people are estimated to be employed as a result of this initiative.

The government intends to set up industrial parks on the huge unused land available in the state-approx. *133 acres of land of The Durgapur Projects Limited, DPL, 193.29 acres of land of Dhakeshwari Cotton Mills and 310.36 acres of land at Mangalpur in West Burdwan.
These land parcels have been allocated to the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) by the State Government for using these lands for Industrial purposes.
Dr. Shashi Panja, state Industry minister said the main thrust area was now the MSME units . West Bengal was doing very well in MSME and start ups, she said.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had recently announced that the state government would give Rs 2 lakhs as loan to the youths to start their own business.

The delegation brought together UK’s most promising entrepreneurs delivering solutions for the foundation .
The Global Business Innovation Programme was led by Innovate UK and UK Research and Innovation India and delivered by Innovate UK EDGE London.
Companies with solutions for Additive Manufacturing, Biotech, Climate Tech, Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR), Energy Storage, Chemicals, Cement, Construction, Real Estate and Glass Industries were part of the delegation.
The delegation was addressed by Ms Vandana Yadav, IAS, Principal Secretary, Industry, Commerce & Enterprises Department and Chairperson & Managing Director, WBIDC, Govt of West Bengal, while a detailed presentation on investment opportunities in the state by Mr Harish, IFS, Executive Director, WBIDC, was the highlight of the meeting.
