A police complaint has been filed under Sections 223, 285, and 132 of the BNS against leaders of West Bengal Pradesh Congress and myself at the behest of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee ji for a peaceful protest organised in front of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation on 5 February 2025, exposing immense corruption in building sanctions, tenders, and bad condition of roads which has led to the death of several individuals since last year.
The police complaint results from fear instilled in the TMC that the West Bengal Congress is agitating on the roads by representing the voices of the aggrieved. The complaint also proves that our continuous efforts to highlight the deteriorating infrastructure, corruption, and law and order situation have been successful. Unlike TMC leaders who have been imprisoned for corruption and illegal monetary gains and BJP leaders for their indecent and outrageous behaviour towards women, members of the West Bengal Congress are always fighting for the rights of the people of West Bengal and no police complaint or threat of imprisonment will stop us from raising our voice for the people. As for me, I come from a family of freedom fighters and my forefathers were imprisoned for fighting against the British to see an independent and democratic India - I will happily be imprisoned for raising my voice for the people of West Bengal.
The BJP and TMC are fundamentally the same. Both parties try to silence criticism by using the State machinery. While the BJP uses the ED, CBI, and ECI, the TMC uses the State Police to suppress any dissent. The identity of a democracy is dialogue, and peaceful protests constitute a facet of a democracy. These police complaints by the State government are an attempt to not only suppress the West Bengal Congress but essentially destroy democracy.
The allegations made against us are completely false and fabricated. In fact, our workers were assaulted by the police on that day and everything has been brought on record by the electronic media present. We have faith in the judiciary and the Constitution of India. We will proceed legally against any State excesses and misutilisation of the State machinery.
