Ajantey — A Woman's Longing

Ajantey will be a film about what women swallow in silence. Mrs. Duburi Banerjee will be exquisite in her restraint — every glance withheld, every feeling pressed neatly beneath a mulmul printed saree that fits like armour. She will suspect her husband. She will know. Yet society will offer her no language for her pain, only the expectation of composure. What will strike a woman watching this film is the unbearable familiarity of it — the way desire and dignity become impossible to hold simultaneously. Her almost-love with Mr. Ananto Gupta will be intoxicating precisely because it will remain unconsummated. She will refuse to become what was done to her. The slow-motion sequences will feel less like stylistic choices and more like the lived texture of longing itself — time distorting around a feeling you are not permitted to name. Mrs. Banerjee will not get resolution. She will get dignity. For many women, that distinction will be painfully, privately recognizable. Ajantey will be a quietly devastating film — one that understands feminine grief with a tenderness that lingers long after the credits roll.

It highlights the value of offering mentorship, empathy, and opportunities, which help build deeper trust, stronger and more inclusive communities, and a sense of personal fulfillment. Taking this philosophy as the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day, Prayasam encouraged girls from the community to actively participate in the “Sports for All” event, particularly in activities that have traditionally been perceived as male-dominated.” The initiative aimed to create a supportive and encouraging environment where girls could confidently overcome their inhibitions, participate alongside boys, and express themselves freely through sport. By doing so, the program sought to challenge existing gender stereotypes, promote inclusivity in sports, and empower girls to step forward with confidence and pursue their goals.

Treasured Thirty… Yessss, we are in our 30th year!
Just like we did in our 25th year with , we all wanted (especially Manju, Sujan, Jayashree, Sangita, and Amrita) to keep filming ourselves with a popular song whose lyrics blend beautifully with Prayasam’s ethos.

For the first one, we chose Zameer’s Tum Bhi Chalo, Hum Bhi Chalen (obviously, the happy version). On a chilly winter morning—04:00 am, to be precise—we were at Kolkata Maidan. An over-enthusiastic Dada was trying very hard to make Debasis Dada dance to [t]his tune, and believe it or faint—he DID.

বছরের শুরুতেই অরূপ স্যার এলেন নিখিল বাবু -র সঙ্গে তাঁর নতুন প্রজেক্ট নিয়ে পি ভি বি স্টুডিও আর দাদার সঙ্গে কথা বলতে । নতুন চিন্তা ভাবনা কে পি ভি বি স্টুডিও বরাবর স্বাগত জানায় । এক্ষেত্রেও তার ব্যতিক্রম হয়নি । কাজটি যেমন ইন্টারেস্টিং তেমন চ্যালেঞ্জিং । আমাদের ইচ্ছে এই কাজটি প্রথমে কলাঞ্জলিতেই হোক ।
