Birding Trip in Nagaland – Winged Beauties of the tribal land; 14th to 21st Oct 2017.

Areas to be covered: - Khonoma Tragopan Sanctuary, Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary, Dzuleke village.

Located in the Lap of the Japfu Mountain ranges beneath the Dzukou valley, Khonoma is very near to the state capital of Nagaland, 20 Kms from Kohima. The unpaved and uphill road leading to Khonoma offers the most stunning view of the valley. The village itself is a green-covered paradise with emerald paddy fields carpeting the land and small streams flowing through these fields. Inhabited by the Angami tribes, the unique bio-diversities of this region had been on a declining phase due to continuous poaching. But now, they have stopped poaching and logging & have concentrated on the conservation of the fauna of the region. Thus, definitely for a bird-enthusiast this place can yield a good number of rarest of rare species because of these places being under-explored.

Embarking on a wildlife tour, one must not miss out the very enchanting Fakim wildlife Sanctuary as its uniqueness lies not only in the species that are found here but also in the nearby scenic view of the high hills, green valleys and the canyons in between them giving way to in-numerous Rivers. The Fakim Sanctuary in Nagaland is close to the Indo-Myanmar border. The sanctuary lies in the Pungro circle headquarter in Nagaland. The Nagaland Fakim Sanctuary is spread over an area of 642 ha. The Fakim Sanctuary receives high rainfall and its tropical and sub-tropical forest is home to numerous flora & fauna.

The Dzuleke village, located in the southern fringes of Dzukou valley, is also a hidden bird-lover’s paradise and is yet to be explored.

So let’s move on and pave our way for exploring the unexplored.
