EIACP Centre, ZSI, Kolkata in collaboration with Paschim Medinipur Environment Conservation Society (PMECS) conducted an outreach awareness campaign to observe the โInternational Day for Biological Diversityโ on the theme โActing locally on Global Impactโ at Ghatal, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal on May 22, 2026. Awareness campaigns were conducted at Khanjapur, Kamalpur, Ranichak and Jot Kanuramgarh under the Ghatal Subdivision about the importance of biodiversity conservation, the ecological significance of local wildlife as well as aquatic fauna, and their close associations with human well-being. Through this initiative, local residents were sensitized to prohibit poaching and illegal trade of various animals like fresh water turtles, parakeets, porcupines, monitor lizards, snakes etc. Participants were also informed in details about various laws and regulations related to biodiversity conservation.

In connection with World Bee Day (2026) as well as the commemorative birthday of Professor Dr. Parthiba Basu, a prominent bee researcher in India, the EIACP Centre at ZSI, Kolkata participated a seminar organized by Department of Zoology, Ballygunge Science College, University of Calcutta on May 20, 2026. A series of research topics on bees were presented by the students. Dr. Rajmohana K., Scientist-E & Coordinator, EIACP Centre, ZSI, Kolkata was invited as a resource person. The talk was on 'Exploring the Unknown' followed by discussion with students. Bee Hotels specially for solitary bees nesting were also installed in the garden of the university campus. Mission LiFE and its seven themes were also discussed with the students.

In connection with World Bee Day (2026), EIACP Centre at ZSI, Kolkata in collaboration with EIACP Centre, BSI, Howrah organized an awareness campaign at Acharya Jagadish Chandra (AJC) Bose Indian Botanical Garden, Howrah on the forenoon of May 20, 2026. To promote the importance of solitary bees in our ecosystem, Bee Hotels specially for solitary bees nesting were installed at different places in the garden. Infographics on solitary bees were also released and distributed. Ms. Prodipta Biswas, JRF, ZSI explained the importance of solitary bees in pollination biology.

EIACP Centre, ZSI, Kolkata conducted a Capacity Building Programme on 'Insect Diversity, Taxonomy and Economic Entomology for Undergraduate Students' on 19th and 20th March 2026 at ZSI-Hq, New Alipore, Kolkata. 20 Students from five local colleges viz., Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, Behala College, New Alipore College, Vivekananda College and Barrackpore Rastraguru Surendranath College participated.
The programme encompassed both theoretical knowledge and practical training, covering methodologies for collection and preservation, insect diversity, and the basic taxonomy of various insect orders.
The valedictory session was marked by the celebration of World Sparrow Day (2026), during which terracotta bird nests and feeders were presented to representatives from each college, highlighting the importance of nature-friendly artificial nests for the conservation of these birds.

EIACP Centre, in collaboration with the Paleozoology Section of ZSI, Kolkata, organized a one-day seminar titled 'Green Leadership: Business for Biodiversity' for BBA students from IQ City United World School of Business, Kolkata. This event took place at ZSI-Hq, New Alipore, Kolkata on February 27, 2026. During the seminar, students explored various faunal galleries, including those dedicated to Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Birds, Mammals, and the Paleozoology museum, to gain insights into different faunal groups. Dr. Lalit Kumar Sharma, Scientist-E and Officer-in-Charge of the Wildlife Section at ZSI, Kolkata, presented a talk on 'Climate Change, Biodiversity & the Role of Business Leaders'. Titled 'Intellectual Challenge' facilitated interaction with the students. Discussions on Mission LiFE and its themes were held with the students, who all took part in the Mission LiFE pledge. Additionally, 2 brochures developed by EIACP-ZSI, Kolkata were distributed.
