TWO units of *Bombay Negative* - the rarest of rare blood Arranged by Federation of Indian Blood Donors Organizations on 14/05/2026

Shree Prabal Kumar Manna had an accident. The femur bone needs to be operated. He is 73 years old . The family was a little bit worried. He was admitted to Tamluk ,East Medinipur.

So far it was fine. But when his blood test was done to find out his blood hemoglobin level and group the story took a 180 degree turn.
His blood group came out to be BOMBAY NEGATIVE .
The rarest of rare forms of blood for humans. Panic started in the family. How to get blood and get the operation done!
The family approached Ujan, a blood donor organisation from Khejuri ,a member organisation of FIBDO .

Immediately Pratik Das from Ujan got in touch with our state chapter.FIBDO,WB state chapter immediately contacted me and the central office and we started the search. Maharastra ,Kerala ,Tamil Nadu State chapter ,and Karnataka State chapter plunged into it as a part of their daily routine.

We found out that we can loop in blood units from Kerala or Mumbai. Finally it was decided to go for Mumbai for the 1st Unit.

Meanwhile we could get in touch with the only donor of Bombay Blood Group Negative in our state and she came down to SSKM and donated blood today.

The blood unit just reached BloodCentre Sskm .The members of Let Us Care for You - LUCY took initiative for safe transportation of the product from Airport to SSKM.
