विक्रम संवत 2079 का प्रारंभ चैत्र शुक्ल प्रतिपदा के साथ होता है। इस बार चैत्र माह में शुक्ल पक्ष की प्रतिपदा तिथि 1 अप्रैल को सुबह 11 बजकर 53 मिनट से शुरू होकर 2 अप्रैल को सुबह 11 बजकर 58 मिनट में समाप्त होगी। लेकिन हमेशा नववर्ष की शुरुआत सूर्योदय के साथ मानी जाती है। इस कारण विक्रम संवत 2079 या हिंदू नववर्ष 2079 का पहला दिन 2 अप्रैल ही माना जाएगा। इसके साथ ही इस दिन हिंदू धर्म का पवित्र दिन नवरात्रि की भी शुरुआत हो रही है।
