UP MSMEs to Get a Neighbour Platform; Nepal Likely to Become Country Partner for India Food Expo
The India–Nepal Trade Treaty provides a unique advantage for businesses because Nepal enjoys preferential access to the Indian market, while trade between the two countries benefits from simplified customs procedures, open border connectivity, and strong economic ties. India is Nepal's largest trading partner, accounting for around two-thirds of Nepal's total trade.
A historic high-level strategic dialogue was held between the Indian Industries Association (IIA) and the Embassy of Nepal at Hotel Centrum, Lucknow. The primary objective of the meeting was to create global market opportunities for MSMEs in Uttar Pradesh and strengthen bilateral investment in key sectors such as food processing, tourism, logistics, and manufacturing.
During the discussions, Nepal was formally invited to become the **Country Partner** for the upcoming **11th India Food Expo (IFX-26)**, scheduled for September 2026. The proposed partnership aims to enhance trade relations, encourage cross-border business collaborations, and open new avenues for economic growth for both countries.
Mr. Dinesh Goyal, National President, IIA, described the initiative as a gateway to new international opportunities for MSMEs, exporters, and entrepreneurs of Uttar Pradesh. He stated that IIA would actively work towards strengthening institutional cooperation through business delegation exchanges, joint industrial programmes, and long-term collaborative initiatives with Nepal.
The dialogue is being regarded as an important step towards providing new momentum to India–Nepal economic cooperation and connecting Uttar Pradesh’s MSMEs with wider global markets.
This initiative is expected to provide UP-based MSMEs with greater international exposure, improved market access, and valuable opportunities for exports, technology exchange, and business expansion.
