To promote experimentation and innovativeness in education a batch of seventeen students of B.Sc. Microbiology (Hons.) along with two faculty members from Jagannath Kishore College, Purulia, West Bengal, were invited in CDRI today.
The major objective of the program was “To motivate the young students for pursuing their career in Science and explore the knowledge of Drug Discovery and Research.
Dr. Vimal Kumar Nair, Postdoctoral Research Associate, Texas A & M University, College Station, TX delivered the talk on “Novel bio active secondary metabolites from marine microorganisms and further secondary metabolites from medicinal plants.” at CSIR-CDRI today.
Laboratory Animal Technician Training Course was organized by CSIR-CDRI in collaboration with National Institute of Animal Welfare (Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Govt. of India) during Dec.7-18, 2015.
The hands on training was imparted to the laboratory animal professionals/technicians/attendants on humane care, breeding, scientific husbandary and management of experimental animals and basic animal techniques in accordance with the guidelines of the CPCSEA.
During the valedictory function, the certificates were also given by the Chief Guest in presence of Director, CSIR-CDRI.
CSIR-CDRI with the support of Department of Science & Technology, New Delhi is organizing a Brain-Storming meeting during (21-23 Jan, 2016) on “Renewing the tradition of natural product research in India” at CDRI, Lucknow with select participation of past stalwarts and current researchers.
The following areas are proposed to be discussed during the meeting:
1. Discovery of new natural products from bacteria, fungi, plants, and marine organisms
2. Biotechnology of natural products, and synthetic biology
3. Chemical Ecology
4. Natural product synthesis
5. Natural products and Chemical Biology.
6. New Drug discovery and Natural products.
The discussion is expected to bring out ways and means to support this area which is of importance to the Nation.
