People's Action for Development Peoples Action for Development is an voluntary organisation support coastal communities in Gulf of Mannar, Tamilnadu, India.

People's Action for Development (PAD) is a not - for-profit development organisation, working with a vision of equity (especially gender equity), Justice, freedom, peace and solidarity. The organization aims at striking a balance between economic and social development. It emphasizes the need for conservation and sustainable use of endangered natural resources and marine eco-systems. PAD is working in the tsunami affected coastal districts of Tamilnadu, India with a the long term goal of establishing sustainable livelihoods through community based initiatives. It works in 133 Villages, reaching 32,500 poor families of Gulf of Mannar.

🛡️ Every Community Has a Role in Protecting Every Child
As part of the Just Rights for Children (JRC) Project, People’s Action for Development (PAD) conducted a Child Rights Awareness Session for MGNREGA workers in Thiruppullani and Kovilpatti Blocks.
The session focused on key child protection concerns, including preventing child marriage, supporting school re-enrolment, ending child labour, preventing child abuse, and accessing government welfare schemes for children.
🤝 Participants also took a family pledge to stand against child marriage and uphold the rights, safety, and well-being of every child.

🌊 Protecting Our Coast, One Community at a Time!
As part of the “Sacred Shores: Debris-Free Gulf of Mannar” initiative, People’s Action for Development (PAD), with the support of HCLFoundation, conducted an awareness activity among roadside vendors at Arichalmunai, Dhanushkodi.
Vendors were sensitized on the importance of avoiding single-use plastics and not selling plastic items in their shops. They were also encouraged to take responsibility for keeping the coastal area clean, safe, and free from plastic waste.

🛡️ Community Commitment to End Child Marriage
Across the project areas where People’s Action for Development (PAD) works, recent Gram Sabha meetings passed resolutions to prevent child marriage and make their respective panchayats child marriage-free.
These important community resolutions were also published through local newspapers, strengthening public awareness and collective action for child protection.

🛡️ Strong Communities Build Safer Childhoods!
As part of the JRC Project, a Child Rights Awareness Meeting was conducted with BBRC SHG members at Kayatharu, Thoothukudi.
The session focused on preventing child marriage, child care and protection, supporting school drop-out children to return to education, and strengthening community responsibility towards children.
🤝 SHG members also joined together in a Family Pledge against Child Marriage, reaffirming their commitment to protect children and support their future.

🌱 Azim Premji Foundation Project Visit | PAD
Today, People’s Action for Development (PAD) welcomed Mr. Millesh, Program Lead, Azim Premji Foundation, for a visit to our project activities.
Mrs. Lucial Joy, CEO, PAD, warmly welcomed Mr. Millesh. Mrs. Nathiya, Project Manager, presented an overview of the project activities, while PAD team members shared their experiences and learnings from the field.
As part of the visit, Mr. Millesh also visited the adolescent girls’ groups at Melakidaram and Soorankudi villages. The girls actively shared their group activities, experiences, and learning with him.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity to understand the progress of the project, appreciate community participation, and strengthen our collective efforts towards adolescent empowerment and community development.

🛡️ Gram Sabha | United Against Child Marriage
On 2 October, People’s Action for Development (PAD) staff participated in the Gram Sabha meetings conducted across the panchayats where PAD works in Thoothukudi District. The meetings provided an important platform to discuss issues affecting children and strengthen community action for their protection.
As part of the discussions, a resolution to prevent child marriage was passed. The Gram Sabha participants also took a collective pledge to ensure that child marriages do not take place in their respective panchayats and expressed their commitment to working together to protect children and promote their rights.
Community participation and collective responsibility are essential to creating safe environments where every child can grow, learn, and build a better future. Together, we move forward towards a Child Marriage-Free India. 🤝🌱
