All India Kisan Sabha All India Kisan Sabha (अखिल भारतीय किसान सभा; AIKS), is the largest peasant organisation of India

All India Kisan Sabha (अखिल भारतीय किसान सभा; AIKS), is the largest national organisation representing peasants in India. The AIKS, which was formed at its first conference on April 11, 1936 at Lucknow, has a glorious 85-year history. It played a stellar role in arousing the peasantry against British imperialism in the movement for national freedom. It was able to unite various sections of the peasantry in the struggle against feudalism, big traders and monopolists. The AIKS led historic peasant struggles in Telangana in Andhra Pradesh, Tebhaga in West Bengal, Punnapra-Vayalar and North Malabar in Kerala, Surma Valley in Assam and tribal movements in Tripura and Maharashtra. In the period after independence, it has continued to organise peasants against the anti-peasant policies of the government. These policies have acquired a particularly disastrous nature during the last three decades of neo-liberalism, leading to suicides of over 4 lakh debt-ridden peasants in the last 25 years. The strong peasant movement built by the AIKS has contributed to the formation of the Left-led state governments in West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura. The AIKS believes that a powerful agrarian movement has to be built on alternative policies centred on the interests of the poor peasants and agricultural workers, both of whom constitute the overwhelming majority of the Indian peasantry. The AIKS is clear that only a thoroughgoing agrarian revolution can truly solve the deep and growing crisis in Indian agriculture.

AIKS Maharashtra Conference begins with Rally from Rajarshi Shahu's Birthplace in Kolhapur

The 24th Maharashtra State Conference of the AIKS began today on 6 October 2026 with an impressive rally which began from the birthplace of the progressive ruler of the erstwhile princely state of Kolhapur, Rajarshi Shahu (1874-1922), a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji.

Shahu was a great social reformer who made efforts for the spread of education to the backward castes and women. He was a great opponent of the caste system and was the first in India to start 50% reservations in government jobs for backward classes, including dalits, as early as 1902.

The rally was led by AIKS National President Dr Ashok Dhawale, National General Secretary Vijoo Krishnan, State President Umesh Deshmukh, State Vice Presidents J P Gavit, ex-MLA, and Dr Uday Narkar, State General Secretary Dr Ajit Nawale, CITU State Secretaries Vinod Nikole, MLA, and Shivaji Magdum, AIDWA State General Secretary Prachi Hatiwlekar, Reception Committee Chairperson and President of the Maharashtra Irrigation Federation Vikrant Patil, Reception Committee Vice Chairperson Babasaheb Devkar, and many others.

After the flag hoisting by State President Umesh Deshmukh, floral tributes to martyrs, election of the presidium and the other committees, the condolence resolution, and the welcome speech, the conference was inaugurated through an effective speech by Vijoo Krishnan, in which he dealt with the agrarian and political challenges before India.

The delegate session is being attended by 307 delegates from 21 districts. They include 37 women. It began this afternoon with the placing of the 124-page Political, Agrarian, Work, and Organisational Report by Dr Ajit Nawale. The discussion on the report will begin tomorrow.

Large AIKS Rally at Nadia in West Bengal opens District Conference

On 2 October 2026, Gandhi Jayanti Day, the AIKS organised an impressive rally and public meeting of thousands of peasant women and men near Nadia in West Bengal, to open its district conference. Hundreds of red flags of the AIKS proudly flew over the whole area. The mood was one of defiance and determination.

After powerful revolutionary songs presented by Soumendra Nath Roy, the public meeting was chaired by AIKS District President Chanchal Kar, and it was addressed by District Secretary Kalyan Gupta, Vice President Meghlal Shaikh, State General Secretary Paresh Pal, and National President Dr Ashok Dhawale.

All the speakers came down heavily on the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State for their betrayal of the peasantry, which was even worse than that of the erstwhile TMC regime. They also lambasted the condemnable communal conspiracies of the RSS-BJP combine.

Kalyan Gupta handed over to Dr Ashok Dhawale and Paresh Pal a cheque for Rs. 1.50 lakh for the AIKS Central Office being built in Delhi.

Rabi MSP 2027–28 Fails Even the C2+50% Benchmark of Last Year

AIKS Demands MSP at C2+50%, with Legal Guarantee and Assured Procurement

The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) strongly rejects the claim of the BJP-led Union Government that the MSP increases announced for the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2027–28 provide remunerative prices to farmers.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved increases in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for the six mandated Rabi crops. The MSP for wheat has been increased by a mere ₹25 per quintal to ₹2,610. The increases for the other crops are ₹136 for barley, ₹83 for gram, ₹390 for masur, ₹413 for rapeseed and mustard, and ₹675 for safflower.

The Government is once again presenting these increases as evidence that farmers are being provided with at least a 50 per cent return over and above the cost of production. This claim is completely misleading. The Government's own statement makes it clear that the cost used for calculating these margins includes paid-out costs and the imputed value of family labour. This is the A2+FL-based calculation and is not the comprehensive cost C2+50% demanded by farmers non the basis of the recommendations of the National Commission on Farmers, headed by Dr M. S. Swaminathan.

The longstanding demand of the farmers' movement is for MSP at C2+50 per cent, along with a statutory guarantee and effective procurement.

AIKS has repeatedly raised this demand before the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) and has pointed out the fundamental difference between the A2+FL calculation used by the Government and the comprehensive C2+50 per cent formula demanded by farmers.

Agriculture is entering another Rabi season after an exceptionally deficient monsoon and severe drought conditions in several states. India ended the 2026 southwest monsoon with rainfall around 12–13 per cent below normal, the lowest monsoon rainfall in more than a decade. Several major agricultural regions have experienced serious rainfall deficits, raising concerns over soil moisture, reservoir levels and the availability of irrigation for Rabi cultivation.

Under these circumstances, farmers face additional expenditure on irrigation, diesel, repeated sowing in affected areas and other measures required to protect their crops. These additional costs come at a time when farmers are already confronting rising cultivation expenses and increasing production risks. Diesel prices also increased substantially during 2026. Diesel is a direct component of the cost of operating irrigation pumps, tractors and other agricultural machinery. Any increase in diesel prices therefore directly adds to the cost of cultivation.

The fertiliser situation further illustrates the pressure on agricultural input costs. The Union Government itself has acknowledged that disruptions in global supply chains as a result of the condemnable US-Israeli war on Iran, have increased freight and insurance costs and raised the landed cost of some fertilisers, particularly potash, even as it has intervened to contain the retail price of certain fertilisers such as DAP.

At a time when farmers are facing higher production risks, deficient rainfall and mounting cultivation costs, the Government has announced extremely inadequate increases in the MSP of several major Rabi crops.

For Wheat, last year's C2 cost was ₹ 1,804 per quintal. C2+50 per cent therefore comes to ₹2706 per quintal. Yet the MSP announced for 2027–28 is only ₹2610 — ₹96 below even last year's C2+50 per cent benchmark. For Barley, C2+50 per cent based on last year's C2 comes to ₹2,793 per quintal, against the new MSP of ₹2,286, resulting in a shortfall of ₹507 per quintal. For Gram, C2+50 per cent comes to approximately ₹7313 per quintal, while the announced MSP is only ₹ 5,958, leaving a shortfall of about ₹ 1,355 per quintal. For Masur, C2+50 per cent comes to approximately ₹7865 per quintal, against an MSP of ₹7390. For rapeseed and mustard, the corresponding C2+50 per cent figure is approximately ₹6837 per quintal, against the announced MSP of ₹6613. For Safflower, C2+50 per cent comes to approximately ₹8607 per quintal, while the Government has fixed the MSP at only ₹ 7215, resulting in a massive shortfall of about ₹ 1,392 per quintal.

These calculations are based on the previous year's C2 costs. Therefore, the actual gap would be even greater if the increase in the comprehensive cost of cultivation during the current year is taken into account.

The AIKS once again places before the Government the core and longstanding demands of the farming community: MSP for all crops at C2+50%, based on the comprehensive cost of cultivation; A legal guarantee for MSP, so that no farmer is compelled to sell below the guaranteed price; Assured and decentralised public procurement of all crops at MSP, covering all farmers and regions; Reduction in the rapidly rising cost of agricultural inputs, including fertilisers, seeds, pesticides, diesel, electricity and irrigation; Full transparency in the calculation of agricultural costs and MSP. AIKS also demands that the Government make public the complete CACP cost calculations for all Rabi and Kharif crops, including the C2 cost, so that farmers, agricultural organisations and the public can independently assess the actual margins being provided.

AIKS calls upon its units throughout the country to expose the Government's totally misleading claims regarding MSP and to mobilise farmers for the struggle for remunerative prices, reduction in input costs, debt relief and a legally guaranteed MSP based on C2+50 per cent.

AIKS Jharkhand State Land Rights Convention at Ranchi calls for Mass Struggle against Land Loot

The AIKS in Jharkhand organised a Land Rights Convention at Ranchi on 1 October 2026. It was presided over by AIKS State President Asim Sarkar and the Resolution was placed by State Secretary Sufal Mahato.

The convention was addressed by AIKS National President Dr Ashok Dhawale, AIAWU National Joint Secretary Vikram Singh, and AIKS National Joint Secretary Awadhesh Kumar. Others who greeted were AARM leader Sukhnath Lohra and AIKS leader Praful Linda.

The tribal and non-tribal peasantry of Jharkhand faced tremendous oppression from the British imperial rulers and the feudal landlords. This led to the historic Santhal Rebellion led by Sidhu and Kanhu Murmu, and the Ulgulan led by Birsa Munda.

Now, with its great wealth of rich forest cover above the ground, and priceless minerals below the ground, Jharkhand is being looted as never before by the Modi-led BJP-RSS regime and the corporate lobby which controls it. Forced land acquisition of every type and displacement of lakhs of peasants is going on. The Santhal Parganas and Chhota Nagpur Tenancy Acts and the LARR of 2013 are being trampled upon.

The convention decided to intensify statewide struggles on a 7-point demand charter in two phases, from October 2026 to March 2027.

"This is the venal regime that we have been living under for the last dozen years. There is only one way to combat it – extensive and intensive mass struggle, like the farmers’ struggle of 2020-21 and the students’ struggle of 2026. And there is only one slogan which must now be given in this struggle – Throw the Rascals Out!"
