The Canadian government should clarify how Hardeep Singh Nijjar obtained Canadian citizenship.

Nijjar was reportedly using a false identity under the name Ravi Sharma and was arrested at Toronto airport in 1997 with a fake passport.

He immediately filed for asylum, claiming persecution by Indian police, but immigration officials rejected his claim.

Just 11 days after his asylum application was denied, Nijjar married a woman from British Columbia who sponsored his immigration. However, authorities found the marriage to be one of convenience and rejected his immigration application as well. Despite these rejections, Nijjar was not deported.

In 2007, Hardeep Singh Nijjar became a Canadian citizen, but the process by which he secured citizenship remains unclear.

He later became the head of the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), a terrorist group operating in Canada, and he was involved in several targeted killings and bombings in India. Two Interpol red notices were issued against Nijjar, in 2014 and 2016.
