(Week of the Italian Language in the World).

𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗡𝘂𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 is a writer and literary translator who has translated major works from English into Italian for over 26 years, including Life of Pi by Yann Martel, Mumbai Fables by Gyan Prakash, and Quarterlife by Devika Rege. Having lived in Mumbai and travelled across India, she has set several of her own works here, such as Trascuranze and Le Febbri. Her novel Lupo has been translated into French.

Join us for three special evenings of music on 10, 12 & 14 November, featuring 𝗜𝘀𝗮 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗮, one of Italy’s brightest emerging pianists, acclaimed for her technical brilliance and expressive artistry.

On 10 & 12 November in Mumbai, Isa Trotta performs Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the 𝗦𝗢𝗜 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮. The evenings also feature SOI cellist 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶 𝗠𝘂𝗸𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗸𝗮𝗹𝗶 in Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1, alongside a refined selection of orchestral works offering an elegant journey through the classical repertoire.

Throwback to the inauguration of L’invenzione della luce-the invention of light: Caravaggio's ‘Magdalene in Ecstasy’.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri Ashish Shelar, Hon. Minister of Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra, at the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, in the gracious presence of Shri Jaykumar Rawal, Hon. Minister of Protocol & Marketing, Shri Bhushan Gagrani, Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai & Administrator, Dr Walter Ferrara, the Consul General of Italy in Mumbai and Francesca Amendola the director of Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Mumbai, marking the first time a Caravaggio’s masterpiece is being showcased in Mumbai.

Caravaggio’s painting is presented in conjunction with early twentieth century artworks by renowned Indian artist Rao Bahadur Mahadev Vishwanath Dhurandhar, depicting a story from Hindu mythology.

Curated by Andrea Anastasio, Director of the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre in New Delhi, and Tasneem Zakaria Mehta, Managing Trustee and Director of the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum.

Mumbai witnessed two magical evenings of unforgettable music, from cinema classics to tango masters, brought to life by Italian bandoneonist 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗳𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗣𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶 along with the 𝗦𝗢𝗜 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮. 🎼 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗗𝗶 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗼 made a special appearance, her soulful voice enriching the performances.

📚 This September, the Italian Book Club in Mumbai reads 𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐨 by Carlo Collodi and tales from the 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚🌍✨

𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐨, the beloved Italian tale of a wooden child who longs to become a real boy, is far more than a children’s story. Written in 1883, it’s a rich allegory of growth, temptation, and redemption. As Pinocchio stumbles through misadventures, Collodi crafts a moral universe where choices matter and transformation is earned, making it a cornerstone of Italian children's literature.

The 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚, originating in ancient India over two millennia ago, is a collection of fables told through animals and layered storytelling. Each tale is designed to impart wisdom on leadership, friendship, and strategy through wit and metaphor sharing with Pinocchio a deep concern for moral education and the shaping of character through experience.

Together, these two works offer a dialogue between tradition and imagination, simplicity and depth, celebrating children's storytelling as a universal art, and a reflection on how fables can guide us through the complexities of life.

Throwback to a delightful evening of Western classical music in Pune! 🇮🇹🎶
Echoes of Italy took the audience on a moving musical journey, featuring works by Rossini, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Piazzolla, along with a heartfelt tribute to Ravi Shankar, all beautifully expressed through flute by Tommaso Benciolini and through guitar by Lorenzo Bernardi.
Organized by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Mumbai in collaboration with the Poona Music Society, the concert was warmly received by an enthusiastic audience at Mazda Hall.

Echi d’Italia ha guidato il pubblico verso un affascinante viaggio musicale attraverso opere di Rossini, Castelnuovo-Tedesco e Piazzolla, arricchite da un toccante omaggio al maestro indiano Ravi Shankar. Il duo composto dal flautista Tommaso Benciolini e dal chitarrista Lorenzo Bernardi ha interpretato il repertorio con straordinaria eleganza e sensibilità.
Il concerto, organizzato dall’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Mumbai in collaborazione con la Poona Music Society, è stato accolto con entusiasmo dal pubblico presente alla Mazda Hall.
