In Regular Civil Suit No. 20 of 2026, pending before the Hon’ble Civil Judge, Senior Division, Jalna, the Hon’ble Court, by its order dated 14 January 2026, had directed publication of an advertisement in newspapers for the purpose of obtaining permission to prosecute the suit in a representative capacity. In compliance with the said order, the advertisement has been duly published on 25 January 2026 in the newspapers, namely Daily Lokmat, Daily Lokmat Times, and Daily Lokmat Samachar.

प्रेस कौन्सिल ऑफ महाराष्ट्र ही एक विधिसम्मत व नोंदणीकृत संघटना असून, सदर संघटनेचे नाव रद्द करण्यासाठी अथवा त्यामध्ये बदल करण्याच्या उद्देशाने प्रेस कौन्सिल ऑफ इंडिया यांनी दिनांक 03 मे 2019 पासून आजपर्यंत सातत्याने व वारंवार तक्रारी सादर केलेल्या आहेत.

या तक्रारींच्या आधारे महाराष्ट्र राज्याचे मुख्य सचिव तसेच माहिती व जनसंपर्क महासंचालनालयातील वरिष्ठ अधिकारी यांनी उपनिबंधक (Registrar) यांच्यावर प्रशासकीय पत्रव्यवहाराद्वारे बेकायदेशीर व अधिकारबाह्य दबाव टाकलेला आहे.

सदर कृती ही कायद्याने प्रदत्त अधिकारांचा, पदाचा व सत्तेचा स्पष्ट दुरुपयोग (abuse of power and authority) असून, त्यामुळे वादी संघटनेच्या कायदेशीर अस्तित्वावर, नोंदणीकृत नावावर तसेच संस्थात्मक स्वायत्ततेवर गंभीर व अपूरणीय स्वरूपाचा आघात होत आहे.

या बेकायदेशीर हस्तक्षेप, प्रशासकीय दबाव व अधिकाराच्या दुरुपयोगाविरुद्ध, प्रेस कौन्सिल ऑफ महाराष्ट्र यांनी दिवाणी न्यायालय, वरिष्ठ स्तर, जालना येथे दिवाणी दावा क्रमांक 20/2026 दाखल केलेला आहे.

सदर दिवाणी दाव्याची सुनावणी दिनांक 14 जानेवारी 2026 रोजी निश्चित करण्यात आलेली आहे.

In July 2023, the Government of Maharashtra allegedly constituted the State and Divisional Accreditation Committees illegally, by granting representation to ineligible organizations.
To challenge and seek cancellation of these unlawful committees, the Press Council of Maharashtra has filed Writ Petition No. 10070 of 2023, which is scheduled for final hearing on Monday, 13th October 2025 at 3:30 PM, before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court, Aurangabad Bench, comprising Hon’ble Justice Smt. Vibha V. Kanakanwadi and Hon’ble Justice Shri Hiten S. Venegaonkar.

Legal experts opine that the forthcoming judgment in this case is likely to be historic and precedent-setting regarding the boundaries of media freedom and governmental control.

In the backdrop of the Winter Session of the Maharashtra Legislature at Nagpur, the Vidhimandal va Mantralaya Sampadak–Patrakar Sangh has filed a Writ Petition before the Hon’ble High Court of Bombay, Aurangabad Bench, through Advocate Shri Rupeshkumar Bora, seeking formulation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for ensuring proper accommodation arrangements for journalists in the “Suyog Building” at Nagpur. The said Writ Petition has been listed for hearing before the Hon’ble Justice Shri Manish Pitale and Hon’ble Justice Shri Y. G. Khobragade on 20th September 2025.

The Hon’ble Bombay High Court, has quashed and set aside the order unlawfully rejecting the renewal of five out of six accreditation cards of the Editor and Reporters of Weekly Barasta Toofan. Furthermore, the Court has ruled to extend the validity of the said accreditation.
