The Galaxy Zack series, written by Ray O'Ryan and vibrantly illustrated by Colin Jack and later Jason Kraft, is a fan-favorite for kids transitioning into chapter books. Set in the year 2120, it follows the adventures of 8-year-old Zack Nelson after his family moves from Earth to the futuristic planet Nebulon.
The Core Premise
The series kicks off with Hello, Nebulon!, where Zack deals with "moving angst." He’s nervous about leaving his best friend Bert, his dog Luna (initially), and Earth's familiarities like pizza. However, he quickly discovers that life on Nebulon is pretty spectacular.
He gets:
* I.R.A. (Indoor Robotic Assistant): A personal AI that wakes him up, makes his bed, and serves him snacks.
* Flying Cars: Instead of wheels, cars are compact cubes that expand and hover.
* Sprockets Academy: His new school, where he meets his blue-skinned best friend, Drake Taylor.

The Little Legends series by Tom Percival is a fun and magical set of books about a group of kids, especially Red, who discover a hidden world full of creatures like trolls and other mysterious beings; as they go on different adventures in books like Little Legends: The Secret Mountain, they slowly realize that *not everything* scary is actually bad, and the stories beautifully show how kindness, understanding, and friendship can solve problems, making the series super enjoyable and easy to read for younger readers.
The creatures (like trolls) aren’t purely evil—they’re reacting to being pushed out or misunderstood.

This book kind of compares people to a garden—everyone grows differently, and that’s exactly what makes it beautiful. Some plants need more sun, some need more water… just like people need different kinds of support, understanding, or space.
And what I really like is how it brings up real differences kids might have—like ADHD, autism, diabetes, or other conditions—but in such a normal, gentle way. It doesn’t label anyone as “weird” or “less,” it just shows that everyone’s brain and body works in their own way.
It doesn’t feel heavy or serious—it’s more like, “Hey, it’s okay to not know everything about someone. Just be *kind* and ask.” Instead of assuming, you can just be curious in a respectful way.
And that line at the bottom—“Be different, be brave, be you”—pretty much sums it up.

For fans of
- A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson and
- One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus, grab *Gaslit* by Megan Davidhizar — a *psychological thriller* that’s simply unputdownable!
My weekend disappeared in reading, and every time I thought I knew what was happening, the story took a sharp turn.
What starts as a simple migraine for Ella keeps her from joining her friends at a New Year’s party. Instead, she ends up babysitting her cousin. When she goes to her aunt’s house, the doors are unlocked, the lights are off… and there’s a gas leak. Tragedy strikes.
The guilt of not being able to save her loved one, the drive to uncover what really happened, and the fear that she might be the next target push the story forward. Readers also discover she has a brain tumor, adding to the tension and making her attempts to solve the mystery even more gripping.
Every chapter delivers jaw-dropping twists and turns.
I’m tempted to spoil it, but I can’t… you’ll just have to find out: Can Ella discover who—or what—killed her loved one? Was it an accident… or is she the real victim? 🔥
