What you need, to be prepared for interview..

If you would like to be a Structural Design Engineer then you should know the following things:

Tests related to site investigation
You should have a thorough knowledge of all the tests that are required to be carried out at site for calculation of the engineering properties of soil. This would decide the kind of foundation required for the structure.
Thorough knowledge of building materials (esp. Concrete and Steel)
Mostly the structures are made out of concrete and steel. You should know about all the properties of at-least these two building materials. This would decide there suitability for a particular job.
Thorough knowledge of the analysis and design procedures.
The job of a Structural Engineer is to design structures to withstand stresses and pressures imposed through environmental conditions and human use. Thus you should have a strong grip on the analysis procedures and design methodologies.
To achieve all the above objectives I would recommend you to take up a project in Analysis and design of a single room(you read it right, just a simple room with 4beams, 4columns, 4 isolated footings and a slab).

Try to find out the tests required to determine the soil parameters for design of foundation.
Decide on the type of foundation that you would provide to the structure.
Do the load distribution, analysis and design of all the structural elements.
Design using both RCC and Steel.
This way you would actually try to implement all the things that you have learned. This would also help you in your interviews, as at most of the designing firms the interviewer is looking for candidates who have knowledge about the whole process of design.

The best way of learning about anything is by doing.

To complete the task in 20 days is difficult but you could do the following:

Start with understanding and learning everything about Standard Pe*******on Test and Plate Load Test. With the help of these two you could tell the bearing capacity of the soil and thus decide what kind of foundation is required for the structure.
Study about the material properties of concrete and steel. This could be done in a day or two. Study the stress strain behavior in both tension and compression. Study about how it behaves under water and when subjected to high temperatures. Study about creep and shrinkage. The easiest possible summary is provided in the first few pages of IS456:2000.
Learn about the load distribution of a slab.(Study about yield lines).
Learn about different methods of calculating Shear Force and Bending Moment. e.g. Slope Deflection Method, Integration Method etc.
Learn the basic design procedure to design a beam, column, and foundation.
I hope this would help you with your interviews.
