On 06 May 2026, the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Mumbai, Ms. Farhana Ahmed Chowdhury, paid an official visit to the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) under Tata Memorial Center (TMC), located at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, accompanied by Third Secretary Mr. Naved Al Razee and senior officials of AB Bank PLC, Mumbai, including Mr. Darayus Bajan, Country Head, and Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Senior Vice President.

The visit was undertaken at the invitation of Dr. Sudeep Gupta, Director of Tata Memorial Centre, following an earlier meeting held at Tata Memorial Hospital on 23 April 2026. The delegation was warmly received by Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi, Director of ACTREC, along with other senior officials of the Centre.

During the visit, both sides engaged in meaningful discussions on potential avenues of cooperation and exchanged views on issues relating to the welfare of Bangladeshi cancer patients receiving treatment in Mumbai, including accommodation support and challenges associated with payment procedures.

The Deputy High Commissioner described ACTREC as one of the foremost institutions for cancer treatment and research in the subcontinent and conveyed the sincere gratitude of Bangladeshi patients and their families for the compassionate care and support extended by the Centre. Dr. Chaturvedi reaffirmed ACTREC’s strong commitment to Bangladeshi patients and healthcare professionals and expressed keen interest in further deepening this valued partnership.

With regard to the complexities surrounding cross-border fund transfers for medical treatment and related expenses, officials of AB Bank PLC expressed their readiness to facilitate payment mechanisms for Bangladeshi patients in accordance with the financial regulations of both countries.

It may be mentioned that ACTREC, functioning under the Tata Memorial Centre, is a world-class institution dedicated to advanced cancer treatment, research, and education, serving a significant number of patients from Bangladesh each year. The Centre houses a state-of-the-art Bone Marrow Transplant facility, with plans underway to expand its capacity fivefold by the end of the year, as well as India’s first public sector Proton Therapy Centre, which offers cutting-edge treatment at highly affordable rates, particularly benefiting paediatric patients.

The delegation also visited the Proton Therapy Centre and was briefed on its transformative role in advancing accessible and affordable cancer care for patients across the region.
