A cleaning drive was organised from Jeypore Daily Bazar to NH-315, passing through Dehing Patkai National Park under Jeypore Range, in connection with the Sewa Sankalpa Abhiyan and Wildlife Week. The drive witnessed active participation from Dihing Development Society, Aranyak, Zila Parishad Member, Lebangkula EDC, Jeypore Thana Nagarik Samiti, Jeypore Police, Forest Department staff, School & college students, and local community members.

World Environment Day Observed with Cleanliness Drive in Dehing Patkai National Park
On the occasion of World Environment Day, 5 June, a mass cleanliness drive was carried out along the Joypur–Deomali road, which passes through Dehing Patkai National Park, in the morning.
The programme was led by Joypur Range Forest Officer Kabin Kumar Bora. The cleanliness drive, which started in the morning, covered the stretch from Nagaghat to Nimakhpung. Forest Department officials and staff participated in the programme along with nature lover Debojit Sonowal and members of several environmental organizations, including Tales of NorthEast, Integrated Nature Farming Farm School, Dehing Development Society, North East Narrative, and Green Commandos’ Forum. Students from local schools and colleges also took part in the initiative.
As part of the subsequent activities, tree saplings were planted at various locations in the surrounding areas. In addition, a seed bombing programme was conducted separately in grazing lands to promote green cover and ecological restoration.
Through today's programme, the organizers appealed to all travellers passing through the National Park to help protect its natural environment by refraining from throwing plastic wrappers, beverage bottles, and other waste materials inside the park during their journey.

Successful Conclusion of “The Dihing Patkai Bird Count 2026”

The two-day bird count programme was successfully conducted on 13th and 14th February 2026 at Jeypore Range under the Dibrugarh Forest Division in Dihing Patkai National Park.

A total of seven bird enumerators from different parts of the state, along with thirteen enthusiastic participants from Duliajan, Naharkatia, and Joypur, actively took part in the bird counting exercise and successfully completed the programme.

The closing ceremony was held at the Forest Inspection Building in the presence of the Joypur Forest Division Officer, where discussions were held on the potential scope for future avifaunal enumeration. Certificates were later distributed to all participants in recognition of their valuable contribution and dedication to the programme.

During the two-day bird count exercise, participants surveyed different sections of the national park and recorded observations of hundreds of bird species. The data collected will contribute towards the preparation of a comprehensive bird checklist, thereby strengthening ongoing efforts in avifaunal documentation, conservation awareness, and biodiversity monitoring within the park.

Dihing Patkai Bird Census 2026 Begins:

The Dihing Patkai Bird Census 2026 commenced today with a two-day programme at Dihing Patkai National Park under Jeypore Range of the Dibrugarh Forest Division.
A total of 7 bird enumerators along with 23 participants participated in today’s enumeration exercise and successfully completed the first day of the programme.

Malayan giant squirrel (Ratufa bicolor) is a large tree squirrel in the genus Ratufa native to the Indomalayan zootope. It is found in forests from northern Bangladesh, northeast India, eastern Nepal, Bhutan, southern China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, West Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and western Indonesia (Java, Sumatra, Bali and nearby small islands).
