Considering the vital importance of coins as a source for our history and realising the fact that numismatics has rather been neglected in the archaeological studies in our country, INHCRF established the Indian Institute of Research in Numismatic Studies (IIRNS) in 1984 with the main objective of aiding and promoting studies and research in Indian numismatic studies. This was the first and continues to be the only Institute in the country exclusively devoted to Indian Numismatics.

This comprehensive program covers:
Classification and identification of wood types
Deterioration of archaeological wooden objects (brown rot, white rot, and other decay agents)
Preventive measures and remedial conservation techniques
Restoration methods, including effective use of fillers for repairs

We are pleased to announce the second hands-on four-day training program on Introduction to Archaeozoology "Bones & Beyond: Unlocking the Past Through Faunal Remains" from June 4th to 7th, 2026. The workshop's resource persons are Dr. Pankaj Goyal of Deccan College, PGRI, Pune, and Miss Nibedita Naskar of Deccan College, PGRI, Pune.
The workshop will cover various aspects of archaeozoology, such as scope and significance, mammalian osteology and dentition, skeletal element identification, taphonomy of mammalian bones - weathering, gnawing, and butchery marks, curation and laboratory techniques - NISP, MNI, and basic faunal analysis, economic and cultural insights - linking data with the human past, bone tool typology and technology - studying and replicating ancient tools, and so on.
