A new chapter is opening for Indo-German trade in food and agriculture 🌾🥗

Last night India and Germany signed an MoU between the German Agribusiness Alliance (GAA) and the Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA) to strengthen institutional and business linkages between the two countries across trade, investment, policy dialogue, technology, innovation and sustainable agriculture.

An evening of discussion and exchange on the future of Indo-German AgriFood trade ensued, opened by Chargé d’Affaires Georg Enzweiler and continued by Martina Englhardt-Kopf, visiting Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) from the German side and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) from the Indian side 🇩🇪🇮🇳

The focus was particularly on the opportunities created by the EU-India Free Trade Agreement, including market access, trade barriers and agricultural export strategies. Members of the German business delegation shared their perspectives, ranging from agricultural technology and food standards to seafood and German w**e. 🦞🍷

What happens when India’s rapidly growing food market meets one of Europe’s leading agri-food industries?

New opportunities for trade, innovation and partnerships. 🇩🇪🇮🇳

12 German companies were present at ANUGA 2026 in Mumbai showcasing the growing interest of Germany’s agri-food sector in the Indian market.

Germany’s agri-food industry is one of its strongest economic sectors, with around one third of its turnover generated through exports. The German Government’s “Modern Agricultural Exports – Made in Germany” strategy, presented in December 2025, aims to sustainably increase exports, open new markets and strengthen the competitiveness and visibility of German companies. It also places a strong focus on the international bioeconomy and bio-based products and technologies.

ANUGA comes at a particularly timely moment, with the EU-India Free Trade Agreement opening up new potential for bilateral trade.

Parliamentary State Secretary Martina Englhardt-Kopf of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) is visiting Mumbai and Delhi, accompanied by a German business delegation. Alongside political discussions, the delegation is holding B2B meetings with Indian partners to explore new opportunities for cooperation. 🇩🇪🇮🇳

India’s semiconductor ambitions are growing fast - and Germany is keen to be part of that journey.

Last week, SEMICON India 2026 brought together India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem and Germany’s strong technology and research community. With more than 600 exhibitors and the launch of “Semicon 2.0” the event showcased the scale and ambition of India’s semiconductor sector.

Led by Dr. Markus Heß, Deputy Director-General at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), the German Business Delegation brought together leading companies and research institutions, including Infineon, ZEISS, Bosch, Siemens and Fraunhofer - to explore closer cooperation regarding advanced manufacturing, skills development and technology transfer with India’s semiconductor industry.

The newly opened NIELIT-Infineon Centre of Excellence is a great example of what this cooperation can deliver: bringing academic learning closer to industry and helping build the specialised talent needed for a resilient semiconductor ecosystem.

Germany and India are already cooperating on the bilateral Semiconductor JDoI. We look forward to continue our dialogue with our Indian partners at the OECD Semiconductor Network in Dresden this November. 🇩🇪🤝🇮🇳

German Ambassador Dr. Jasper Wieck recently met with partners at the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) and the Federation of European Business in India (FEBI), as part of his first visit to the organisations, followed by an exchange with representatives of German universities at the German House.

The conversations covered Germany–India economic ties, academic cooperation, and how we can continue to deepen these connections and create new opportunities for collaboration.

A warm thank you to Jan Noether, Director General of IGCC, Shivani Chaturvedi, Regional Director of IGCC, and Sonia Prashar, Secretary General of FEBI, as well as our university partners, for the warm welcome and open exchange.
