SECI has been awarded the Clean Energy Transformation Leader of the Year 2026 at the GEEF Global Environmental Excellence Awards for its 100 MW (AC) Floating Solar PV Power Project at Getalsud Reservoir, Ranchi, Jharkhand. Shri Sivakumar V Vepakomma, Director (Power Systems) received the award on behalf of SECI.

The project demonstrates large-scale deployment of floating solar technology through efficient utilization of reservoir surface area for renewable energy generation while addressing land constraints.

With a capacity of 100 MW (AC) / 126 MW (DC), the project is expected to generate around 170,762 MWh of clean electricity annually while supporting India’s renewable energy transition.

SECI has issued the RE sector’s first Expression of Interest (EoI) for Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA)-based Renewable Energy Procurement.

The EoI is intended for demand assessment and aggregation for financially settled renewable energy procurement under the VPPA route. The proposed mechanism can enable consumers to meet Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO) requirements and manage electricity price exposure without physical power delivery.

The EoI invites participation from industries, commercial establishments, PSUs, data centres, open access consumers, captive users and other eligible power consumers. Responses received will support market assessment, demand discovery and further structuring of procurement under the VPPA framework.

RE 101 | Distribution Companies (DISCOMs)

Electricity begins at power plants (solar/wind/thermal etc), moves across high-voltage transmission networks over hundreds of kilometres, and finally reaches your neighbourhood. That’s where DISCOMs step in.

DISCOMs are the last-mile link of the power sector - distributing electricity through local grids, managing demand, maintaining infrastructure, handling billing, and ensuring a safe, reliable supply to homes, businesses, and industries.

They are the backbone of everyday energy access - making sure power is available when and where you need it.
