In India, Canada is represented by the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi. Canada also has Consulates General in Bengaluru, Chandigarh and Mumbai; a Consulate in Kolkata; and Trade Offices in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. While Canada has a Consulate in Nepal, the High Commission in India also represents Canadian interests in Nepal and Bhutan.

In meetings with government and business leaders in Bhubaneswar, High Commissioner Cooter underscored strong Canada–India alignment on critical minerals and energy partnership — unlocking investment, joint ventures, and supply–chain resilience, from exploration to processing.

Notably, the High Commissioner met the Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo; the Minister of Commerce, Transport, Steel and Mines, Bibhuti Bhushan Jena; and, the Chief Secretary of Odisha, Anu Garg.

He also visited SPARC Pvt. Ltd., IIT Bhubaneswar, National Aluminium Company Limited - NALCO and CSIR-Institute of Minerals & Materials Technology.

In meetings with business powerhouses in , High Commissioner Chris Cooter and Consul General Jeff David discussed unlocking economic potential and strengthening supply chain resilience in advanced manufacturing in automotive and defence systems, biologics, and AI-led innovation.

They also paid their respects to Canadian soldiers laid to rest at the Kirkee War Cemetery.

India and Canada successfully concluded the second round of negotiations for the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), held from 4–8 May 2026 at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi, and hosted by the Department of Commerce, Government of India.

From market access to investment and innovation, a Canada–India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) will unlock growth on both sides, deepen economic ties, strengthen supply chains, and drive shared, sustainable growth.

The Department of Commerce, successfully hosted the second round of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations between India and Canada in New Delhi. The negotiations were conducted in accordance with the Terms of Reference signed by the Trade Ministers of both countries on 2 March 2026, covering key chapters including Trade in Goods, Trade in Services, Intellectual Property, and Rules of Origin, among others.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a balanced and mutually beneficial agreement to strengthen bilateral trade ties. The next round of negotiations is scheduled to be held in Ottawa, Canada, in July 2026.

Moreover, the nation is expanding its LNG export foothold beyond the US, seeking to diversify oil exports to India, which has the capacity to refine heavy crude.
