At the DHR–ICMR Health Research Excellence Summit 2025,
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Smt. Anupriya Patel, emphasized how India’s health research ecosystem has become a key pillar of Viksit Bharat under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

🧬 The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India’s apex medical research body and one of the oldest in the world, was established in 1911 as the Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA) and renamed in 1949. Headquartered in New Delhi, ICMR continues to lead the nation’s health research and innovation ecosystem.

Over the decades, ICMR has led pioneering research in infectious diseases, nutrition, reproductive health, and non-communicable diseases, translating science into actionable public health policies that have transformed millions of lives.

With 28 institutes and centers across the country, ICMR is driving India’s leadership in vaccine development, AMR surveillance, digital health, and biomedical innovation.

As it moves forward with the DHR ICMR Action Plan (2024–2029), the Council is focused on promoting indigenous technologies, enhancing research translation, and building a self-reliant and healthier India through science.
