His Excellency Mr Jagnnath Sami, High Commissioner of the Republic of Fiji to India, met with Mr Harshad Bhagwat, Director of Europa Media and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., at the Fiji High Commission in New Delhi on 7 October 2026 to explore opportunities for strengthening Fiji–India cooperation in film production and entertainment. Discussions focused on promoting Fiji as an attractive filming destination for Indian filmmakers, participation in the annual international film conclave in Mumbai, and the possibility of organising a familiarisation visit to showcase Fiji’s unique locations and production capabilities. The meeting also explored potential Indian investment in film production equipment, technical services and partnerships with local businesses to strengthen Fiji’s creative industry, generate employment and support tourism. Both sides expressed interest in working with Film Fiji and relevant industry stakeholders to advance these opportunities and deepen collaboration between the two countries.

H.E. Mr Jagnnath Sami, High Commissioner of the Republic of Fiji to India, met with Mr Sayantan Chakravarty, Chairman of Africa First – India Empire, at the Fiji High Commission in New Delhi on 7 October 2026 to discuss preserving and promoting the shared heritage of the Girmitiya community. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration among Girmitiya descendant countries, exploring UNESCO World Heritage recognition for the Kolkata Girmitiya Memorial, digitising historical archives and migration records, and developing educational publications to raise awareness of the history and legacy of indentured labourers. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of collective action, research, cultural diplomacy and public engagement in preserving this significant historical connection between India, Fiji and other countries shaped by indentured migration.

H.E. Jagnnath Sami, High Commissioner of Fiji to India, met with Captain Om Prakash, Chairman of the Girmitiya Foundation UK and Director associated with an ICSSR research project, at the Fiji High Commission in New Delhi on 6 October 2026. Discussions focused on preserving and digitising records of the Girmit and indenture experience, tracing ancestral roots, strengthening research and archival cooperation, and promoting heritage and cultural tourism. The meeting highlighted the importance of connecting historical records in India with those preserved in Fiji and other former indenture destinations, while creating opportunities for future generations of the Indian diaspora to reconnect with their ancestral roots and further strengthen the enduring people-to-people bonds between Fiji and India.

Jagnnath Sami, High Commissioner of Fiji to India, received Mr Mason Smith, Permanent Secretary for Defence and Veterans Affairs, Fiji, at the Fiji High Commission in New Delhi on 1 October 2026. Discussions focused on strengthening Fiji–India defence and security cooperation, including maritime domain awareness, coastal surveillance, drones and unmanned systems, defence training and capacity building, equipment and logistical support, and the use of defence capabilities for humanitarian assistance and rural development. The meeting reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to deepening practical cooperation with India in support of Fiji’s national security, resilience and sovereign capabilities.

H.E. Mr. Jagnnath Sami, High Commissioner of the Republic of Fiji to India, met with senior representatives of Alcorn India Pvt. Ltd. at the Fiji High Commission in New Delhi to explore opportunities for India–Fiji cooperation in renewable energy, electrical infrastructure and sustainable development. Discussions covered potential solar solutions for farms, schools and colleges, as well as opportunities in hospitals, residential buildings, roads, rainwater harvesting and drainage systems. The engagement highlighted the potential for Indian expertise and technology to contribute to Fiji’s renewable-energy and infrastructure priorities, with further discussions envisaged on specific projects and partnerships.
The Alcorn delegation also extended an invitation to the High Commissioner to visit their facilities and developments in Roorkee, Uttarakhand.

H.E. Jagnnath Sami, High Commissioner of Fiji to India, participated as a panellist at the TravelJingles Diplomatic Conclave 2026 in New Delhi on 29 September, joining fellow diplomats from Guatemala, Seychelles, Palau, Sri Lanka and Türkiye for a discussion on “The Importance of International Education in a Globalised World.” The panel explored how international education goes beyond academic qualifications by developing cultural understanding, language skills, independence, adaptability, resilience, professional networks and global perspectives. H.E. Sami highlighted Fiji’s potential as an alternative destination for international students, particularly through the University of the South Pacific, Fiji National University and the University of Fiji, and emphasised Fiji’s unique value as a living environment for learning about climate change, the Blue Pacific and sustainable development. The discussion also underscored the role of international education in strengthening people-to-people links, cultural diplomacy and long-term relations between countries

Jagnnath Sami, High Commissioner of Fiji to India, met with Mr. Amit Kumar, Chief of Protocol, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, on 25 September 2026 in New Delhi for constructive discussions on strengthening Fiji–India relations and advancing key areas of cooperation, including implementation of bilateral commitments, Chancery land, health and the proposed Super-Specialty Hospital, agricultural and sugar-sector mechanisation, nano-fertiliser trials, parliamentary exchanges, and support for Fijian students under the ICCR scholarship programme. The meeting reaffirmed the strong people-to-people and institutional ties between Fiji and India and the shared commitment to translating bilateral cooperation into tangible outcomes for both countries

HE Sami Participated in the Pre-COP Dialogue “Partners in Green Transition: Advancing Ambition, Action and Partnerships for COP31”, organised by the Chintan Research Foundation in partnership with the Australian High Commission in India, in New Delhi. A key message from Hon. Chris Bowen, Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy, was the need to move from climate commitments to implementation, with COP31 focusing on accelerated electrification, clean energy, climate finance, adaptation and resilience. Particularly relevant for the Pacific was the emphasis on placing Pacific voices, ocean stewardship, blue-economy opportunities and access to climate finance at the centre of the COP31 agenda. The strong Australia–India partnership in advancing clean energy, technology, investment and resilient development was also highlighted.

The Fiji High Commission in New Delhi participated in the National Leadership Dialogue on Agentic AI and Future Workforce Development, highlighting the transformative potential of AI for education, TVET, healthcare, agriculture, public services, SMEs and climate resilience. The discussion reinforced the importance of moving beyond AI users to developing AI-enabled creators, innovators and problem-solvers, while keeping human judgement, ethics and inclusion at the centre. For Fiji, India’s growing experience in AI, digital transformation and large-scale skills development presents valuable opportunities for cooperation in AI skills and certification, train-the-trainer programmes, AI-enabled public services, agriculture, education and entrepreneurship, supporting a future-ready and resilient workforce across Fiji and the Pacific.
