Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, is observing World Environment Day 2026 through Green Summer Camps under the aegis of from 5th to 30th June 2026.

As part of these Green Summer Camps, schools across the Nation are encouraged to undertake activities aligned with the seven themes of Mission LiFE—Adopt Healthy Lifestyle, Adopt Sustainable Food Systems, Reduce E-Waste, Reduce Waste, Save Energy, Save Water and Say No to Single Use Plastic. Aligned with the vision of , this initiative aims to promote environmental awareness among school students through experiential learning especially activities encouraging bonding with nature.

Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education is all set to implement the third edition of campaign under the aegis of from 5th June to 30th September 2026. Coinciding with the plantation season across diverse agro-climatic regions of the country, this nationwide tree-plantation campaign seeks to strengthen environmental stewardship among school students while fostering a deep sense of responsibility towards nature.

In line with the vision of , which emphasises environmental awareness and sustainable living as integral components of education, the campaign encourages students to become active participants in environmental conservation.

These initiatives include:
🌱 Organisation of Green Summer Camps from 5th to 30th June, 2026
🌱 Achieving 100% saturation of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE in schools
🌱 Implementation of Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0 from 5 June to 30 September 2026
🌱 Sensitising students to India’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and climate commitments

These efforts aim to nurture environmentally conscious citizens and inspire meaningful action towards a greener and sustainable future.

Hon'ble Union Minister of Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, chaired a detailed discussion during a review meeting with officials, committee members and domain experts on the proposed draft National Mental Health & Well-Being Policy for Schools.

The deliberations focused on strengthening mental well-being among students, teachers and the wider school community. Emphasising the importance of a holistic and preventive approach, the Hon'ble Minister underscored the need to foster safe, inclusive and supportive learning environments, build a positive school culture that promotes mental well-being, empathy, care, trust, and emotional resilience, and integrate mental health and well-being into school system, practices and implementation as an integral part of quality education. The policy must leverage on Indian Knowledge Systems, culture and must be practically implementable while having the teachers as the first level of mentors.

University of Liverpool Receives Letter of Approval (LoA) to establish its Campus in Bengaluru 04/06/2026

In a significant step toward internationalisation of higher education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Ministry of Education today handed over the Letter of Approval (LoA) to the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, to establish its branch campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

The LoA was handed over by Dr. Vineet Joshi, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC), to Professor Richard Grose, Provost, University of Liverpool Bengaluru, in the presence of Hon’ble Union Minister for Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom, Rt. Hon. Yvette Cooper.

As a lead-up to World Environment Day 2026, a virtual meeting was chaired by Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education on 4th June 2026, to sensitise representatives from States and UTs on the implementation of Green Summer Camps and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0 under the aegis of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE. The Secretary emphasised the importance of environmental awareness and the need to adopt sustainable lifestyle among students, highlighting the critical role of schools in nurturing environmentally responsible behaviour. He encouraged States and UTs to leverage Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE as a platform to promote conservation of resources and active participation in environmental initiatives.

Dr. Amarpreet Duggal, Joint Secretary, DoSEL, delivered an in-depth presentation highlighting the importance of promoting environmental awareness among school students through activities aligned with the seven themes of Mission LiFE and encouraged States and UTs to facilitate active participation of schools in the campaign.

States/UTs were urged to ensure saturation of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE in schools of all managements across the country.

As part of Yuva Sangam Phase VI, delegates from Gujarat visited Bhubaneswar and interacted with the Hon'ble Governor of Odisha, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati.

Addressing the students, the Governor highlighted the importance of programmes like Yuva Sangam in fostering emotional bonding, national integration, and mutual understanding among the youth. He encouraged the participants to embrace sustainability, innovation, self-reliance, environmental responsibility, and cultural appreciation while becoming ambassadors of India's unity in diversity.

The delegates also explored Odisha's rich cultural heritage through visits to the sacred Jagannath Temple and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Konark Sun Temple.

As part of the National Award Ceremony of School Challenge–TOFEI 2025 and Launch of the Three-YearAction Plan, an engaging panel discussion was organised on “Nurturing Resilient and Empowered Youth: Mental Health Promotion and To***co & Drug-Free Campuses”.

The discussion was moderated by Ms.Anusree Raha, Deputy Secretary, DoSEL and featured eminent panelists Dr. RajeshSagar, Head,Department of Psychiatry,AIIMS, Dr.Anjali Chhabra, Additional Director,CBSE and Shri Nikhil Kant, Deputy Director, AICTE.

The session emphasised the importance of mental well-being, preventive education and institutional support systems in creating safe, inclusive and substance-free educational environments for students across the country. It also highlighted the crucial role of teachers and parents in empathetically acknowledging students’ concerns, identifying early signs of mental health issues and appropriately handling such situations with care, sensitivity and support.

Insightful sessions on Spider Silk Technology, biotechnology, and “Hunting for Strange Subatomic Nuclei” gave students a deeper understanding of advanced scientific research and innovation. The visit to the Neutron Laboratory was a highlight of the day!
