An important dimension of Water Security is defined by individual conscience.
Household leaks left unattended, drains burdened with waste, and wetlands surrendered to neglect are not passive oversights. They are active contributions to a crisis that now demands reckoning at every scale of society.
The choices made at the kitchen tap, on the rooftop, in the neighbourhood drain are not peripheral to the larger conversation on climate resilience. They are its very foundation.
From reusing greywater to restoring urban water bodies, individual action is not supplementary to systemic change. It precedes it and sustains it. Water resilience cannot remain the preoccupation of a few. It must become the operating principle of all.
This is precisely why India International Water Week exists. Not merely as a congregation of policymakers and institutions, but as a national reckoning with the truth that water resilience cannot be legislated into existence alone. It must be lived.

The story of India’s water future is closely linked to the health of its rivers. Launched in 2014, the Namami Gange Programme is a flagship mission driving the conservation, rejuvenation, and sustainable management of the River Ganga through investments in sewerage infrastructure, river restoration, biodiversity conservation, afforestation, community participation, and policy interventions.
As India advances towards a water-secure future, initiatives like Namami Gange showcase how integrated water management can strengthen ecosystems, livelihoods, and resilience for generations to come.
At India International Water Week 2026, we spotlight such impactful initiatives that are shaping India's water story and advancing a sustainable water future.

Through the Government of India's Jal Jeevan Mission, the commitment of providing water at every doorstep is becoming a reality for rural households across the country. The Mission is enabling the delivery of safe and assured drinking water directly to homes, improving health, restoring dignity, and easing a daily burden that has been borne for generations, particularly by women and girls.
As India steadily advances toward a water-secure future, the Mission continues to build inclusive, durable, and climate-resilient water infrastructure, ensuring that no community is left behind and no source runs dry.
As the 9th India International Water Week 2026 approaches, we invite you to be part of this vital conversation on building a water-secure and sustainable future for all.
