Nurturing Hearts Before Minds

On 19th May 2026, a workshop titled “Nurturing Hearts Before Minds” was conducted by Headmistres, Pre Primary Ms. Ekta Sachdev. The session focused on the importance of emotional intelligence in the classroom and emphasized how teachers can nurture children’s emotions before academics.
The workshop began with an engaging warm-up activity, “Name the Colour, Not the Word,” in which all teachers participated enthusiastically. Through this interactive game, the participants experienced the importance of focus, self-control and mindful responses. Ms. Ekta Sachdev then introduced the thought-provoking concept: “Emotion is Communication – Pause – Think – Respond.” She highlighted how children’s emotions often reflect their inner needs and how teachers play a significant role in responding with empathy and understanding.
The session further involved teachers in hypothetical classroom situations presented through roleplays and sketches. These activities encouraged participants to reflect on different classroom behaviours and explore thoughtful ways of responding to children with patience and emotional sensitivity. Teachers actively collaborated and shared ideas, making the workshop highly engaging and meaningful.
An especially heartwarming segment of the workshop encouraged participants to reflect on their favourite teacher and the lasting impression that educator had left on their lives. This meaningful activity helped teachers realise the profound role educators play in shaping not only a child’s academic journey but also their emotional growth, self-esteem and sense of belonging.
The workshop concluded with an inspiring TED Talk that reinforced the importance of emotional intelligence in creating emotionally safe and supportive classrooms where children feel valued, heard and encouraged to learn.
Overall, the workshop served as a meaningful reminder that when educators lead with empathy, patience and understanding, they create classrooms where children not only learn better but also grow into emotionally secure and confident individuals.
