A library of historical significance located around 35 km away from Patna would soon be ready to welcome modern readers.

पटना से पालीगंज जाने वाली टूटी सड़क पर ऐतिहासिक धरोहरों और खजानों को समेटे एक गांव है भरतपुरा और इसी गांव में एक ऊंचे टीले पर स्थित है गोपाल नारायण पब्लिक लाइब्रेरी। अकबर के शासन काल के दौरान यहां महाराष्ट्र से राजा कंचन सिंह आकर बसे थे। उनके वंशज राजा भरत सिंह ने यहां एक किले का निर्माण करवाया था। बाद में भरत सिंह के नाम पर ही इलाके का नाम भरतपुरा पड़ा। उन्हीं के वंशजों में से एक गोपाल नारायण सिंह ने 12 दिसंबर 1912 में इस लाइब्रेरी की स्थापना की। इसका उद्घाटन तत्कालीन जिलाधिकारी डब्लू डी आर प्रेंटिस ने किया था। शुरुआत में गोपाल नारायण ने अपने पुर्वजों से संबंधित कई एंटीक और खास वस्तुओं का संग्रहण उस लाइब्रेरी में किया। उसके बाद धीरे-धीरे उन्होंने अपनी लाइब्रेरी कम म्यूजियम को ऐतिहासिक खजानों से भर दिया। बताया जाता है भरतपुरा गांव के आस-पास से खुदाई में कई ऐतिहासिक महत्व की चीजें प्राप्त हुई है जिन्हें इसी लाइब्रेरी में रखा गया है।
