A physics session on the topic “Heat” was conducted by Harsha Kulkarni from the iRISE team. The session highlighted the importance of experimentation and drawing inferences based on observations.
An interesting session “Electronics” was felicitated by Shivani Pulse During the session teachers built various electronic circuits. They were also introduced to simulations to be used in the classroom. Teachers enthusiastically tried and succeeded in making sensors using the provided electronic components.

A session on “Real life application of Mathematics” was felicitated by Sushant Pawar wherein teachers used a hypsometer to find out height using trigonometry. The teachers were
actively engaged in these tasks
Aishwarya Gadgil from the iRISE team conducted a session on “ Models as teaching aids”. She emphasized that while using a model to demonstrate any activity, one must acknowledge the limitations and advantages of that model in order to avoid misconceptions.

One day Science Communication workshop began at under iRISE programme for the STEM Early Career Researchers in collaboration with CSIR- National Chemical Laboratory and Gujarat Council on Science & Technology (GUJCOST) at Gujarat Science City Ahmedabad.
STEM Ph.D. scholars from IIT Gandhinagar, Nirma University, CSIR-CSMCRI, Ahmedabad University, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, and Gujarat Science City participated in the workshop.
Challenges of science communication, science communication and social media, lede practical, body of the science news, and hands on science writing topics will be covered during this workshop.
Dr. Narottam Sahoo, Advisor, Gujarat Council on Science & Technology, Dept of Science & Technology, Govt of Gujarat inaugurated the workshop. Dr. T V Venkateswaran, Sr. Scientist at Vigyan Prasar, and Dr. A.V.K.V.Subramanyasharma, Ex Chief Scientist at CSRI-CFTRI are the resource persons for this workshop.
Dr Poonam Bhargava from GUJCOST, Mr. Mayur Khaire from iRISE, Dr Brijesh from Science City were present at the inauguration. Dr NItin Tewari from CSIR-NCL also joined the event online from Pune.

Chemistry presentation !!
All teachers from Phase2 | Batch 3 workshop got an opportunity to present posters on different chemistry topics. @ SHRADDHA BHURKUNDE and Patil elaborated on the “ Process of Science” during the poster presentation session !! All teachers enthusiastically presented their work.
Integrating Arts in STEM !!
Abha Bhagwat a renowned artist who has been engaged with education through drawings facilitated an arts session during Phase 2 | Batch 3 workshop. All the teachers were highly engrossed in activities. Teachers shared their experience and liked the concept of linking Arts to Science and other subjects.
Prof. L.S Shashidhara shared his thoughts about education and pedagogy. He emphasized the need to focus on innovation skills, self learning and sustainability skills in the upcoming years.
Prof. G.Nagarjuna highlighted the importance of habits. He introduced teachers to ChatShala, an open,online learning platform

Bird Watching !
A nature walk to know about the local biodiversity at IISER Pune was led by Sanket Raut. Mobile applications for cataloging birds were introduced to the teachers during the walk.
A session on “Ecosystem” was conducted by Sanket Raut. The teachers were engaged in activities. Their observations through enquiry were then connected to a case study.
In an intriguing session on inductive reasoning and proofs, Mausami Muley from iRISE team motivated the teachers to understand the need of proofs while also emphasizing on the importance of observing patterns around and forming conjectures.

Performing Experiments as a Science Investigators !!
A chemistry session was conducted by Shraddha Bhurkunde where teachers enthusiastically performed experiments as a science investigator and further represented their investigation through poster presentation.
An interactive session by Dr. Neeraja Dashaputra was conducted during iRISE phase 2 workshop where she highlighted the importance of right educational practices with inquiry based approach. The inquiry questioned the traditional way of exploring science and mathematics concepts and identifying innovative alternates for more active learning approach. The discussion included Johnstone’s Triangle as a Pedagogical Framework for Flipped-Classroom inquiry.
A great discussion by Padmashree Dr. Arvind Gupta and Padmashree Dr. Anil Gupta happened during the phase 2 | Batch 3 workshop. They encouraged teachers to go beyond the classroom and explore different possibilities. Dr. Arvind Gupta also suggested various books, documentaries and authors to the teachers.

Day 4 of the iRISE Phase 2 workshop began with a session on “Science of Life” by Dr. Asim Auti, MS-DEED. He stressed on the use of constructivism inside the classroom and how one should go beyond textbooks to teach abstract concepts. The teachers had a thorough discussion during the session.
A session on electronics was conducted by Pradnya Pujari where the teachers explored various electronic components and built their own circuits. Teachers were intrigued by the subject and gladly seized the opportunity to get creative.

The second half of the Day started with a physics session on Motion conducted by Harsha Kulkarni.The central idea of the session was how a concept can be built up based on observation through experiments. Teachers designed an experiment using easily available materials to calculate speed.
An interactive session was conducted by Dr. Apurva Barve from the Office for Climate Education, Paris on Climate Change. Different strategies like role-play, activity based learning were used to convey the message during the session. Teachers thoroughly
enjoyed the session.

Leveraging Game-based learning in the classroom works wonders for student engagement and allows students to acquire knowledge in a fun learning environment. Here’s Thorve who conducted a physics session on Game-based learning.
In the session 'Mathematical Connections', Taquee, from the iRISE team had Puzzles, narration of a historical tale, hands-on activities along with discussions on the relationships between area, perimeter, volume in various 2D and 3D shapes and applications of those in engineering with the teachers.
The day concluded with another physics session by Jahida Sheikh. With the theme of Hands-On Minds-On various activities on electromagnetism and its applications were explored.
