🌍 World Meteorological Day 2026 is being celebrated worldwide today with the theme “Observing today, protecting tomorrow.”

At the Office of Climate Research & Services, IMD Pune, the occasion is being marked with an Open Day, welcoming the public to learn more about IMD’s activities and interact with our weather forecasters. Aligned with this year’s theme, we are pleased to introduce a Digital Surface Meteorological Observation System into our surface observation network. 🌦️

Designed and developed in-house by the Surface Instrument Division of India Meteorological Department, Pune, this system uses Wi-Fi-enabled digital sensors to measure key parameters such as air temperature, humidity, pressure, wind, and rainfall—providing accurate, real-time, geo-tagged data for meteorological applications.

अत्यंत हर्ष का विषय है कि जलवायु अनुसंधान एवं सेवाएं कार्यालय, पुणे को दिनांक 17 फरवरी 2026 को CSIR–राष्ट्रीय रासायनिक प्रयोगशाला (NCL), पाषाण, पुणे द्वारा आयोजित समारोह में वर्ष 2024–2025 के दौरान उत्कृष्ट राजभाषा कार्यान्वयन हेतु (50 से अधिक कार्मिकों वाले कार्यालयों की श्रेणी में) द्वितीय पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

इसके अतिरिक्त, कार्यालय द्वारा दिनांक 29 जुलाई 2025 को आयोजित अंतर-कार्यालयीन स्वरचित हिंदी काव्य पाठ प्रतियोगिता के सफल आयोजन के लिए प्रशंसा पुरस्कार भी प्रदान किया गया।

इस अवसर पर हमारे कार्यालय के विभिन्न अधिकारियों को भी उनके उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन के लिए सम्मानित किया गया.

🏆 श्रीमती सरिता कुमारी, वैज्ञानिक सहायक, दिनांक 18.07.2025 को क्षेत्रीय आयुर्वेदिक अनुसंधान संस्थान, कोथरुड, पुणे द्वारा आयोजित शब्द ज्ञान प्रतियोगिता में प्रोत्साहन–1 पुरस्कार।
🏆 श्री सुनिल डोके, मौसम विज्ञानी–ए, दिनांक 23.07.2025 को भारतीय विज्ञान शिक्षा एवं अनुसंधान संस्थान (IISER), पाषाण, पुणे द्वारा आयोजित सामान्य ज्ञान प्रतियोगिता में प्रोत्साहन–2 पुरस्कार।

इन सभी उपलब्धियों के लिए समस्त पुरस्कार विजेताओं एवं सहयोगी अधिकारियों को हार्दिक बधाई। 🌟

यह सम्मान हमारे कार्यालय की राजभाषा के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता, सृजनात्मकता एवं उत्कृष्ट कार्य संस्कृति का प्रतीक है।

It is a matter of great pride that the Climate Research & Services Office, Pune was awarded the Second Prize for Outstanding Implementation of Official Language (Rajbhasha) for the year 2024–2025 (in the category of offices with more than 50 employees) at a celebration held on 17th February 2026, organized by CSIR–National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pashan, Pune.

In addition, the office received a Certificate of Appreciation for successfully organizing the Inter-Office Self-Composed Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition held on 29 July 2025.

🏆 Mr. Abhinav Arora, Scientific Assistant — Awarded First Prize in the Extempore Speech Competition organized on 25.07.2025 by CSIR–National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pashan, Pune.

🏆 Ms. Sarita Kumari, Scientific Assistant — Received Encouragement Prize–1 in the Word Knowledge Competition organized on 18.07.2025 by Regional Ayurvedic Research Institute, Kothrud, Pune.

🏆 Mr. Sunil Doke, Meteorologist–A — Awarded Encouragement Prize–2 in the General Knowledge Competition organized on 23.07.2025 by Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune, Pashan, Pune.

CWPRS and CRS, IMD Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen Collaboration in Water and Climate Research.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Prabhat Chandra, Director, CWPRS, Pune, and Shri Rahul Saxena, Scientist-G, IMD.

The MoU provides a framework for institutional collaboration between CWPRS and IMD-CRS, facilitating the exchange of scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and relevant data.

Surface Instrument Division, CRS Pune & MC Jammu jointly installed a Heliport Automated Weather Observing systems (HAWOS) at SANJI CHHAT HELIPAD, SHRI MATA VAISHNO DEVI Shrine Board, Katra, Jammu on 26 Nov 2025.

IMD Pune proudly hosted the Curtain Raiser Event for the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025 today, gearing up excitement for the main event from December 6–9 at Panchkula, Haryana. Students and teachers from Vidya Vardhini School dove into inspiring talks and received Science Experiment Kits to ignite their passion for discovery!​

Graced by dignitaries Dr. Sabin Thazhe Purayil (IITM), Shri Sreeprasad M. Kuttan (VIBHA), and Dr. Manasi Malgaonkar (VIBHA), the programme featured engaging sessions on global science festivals, India's outreach evolution, and building a scientific temperament. We were honoured to welcome Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates with WMO, to Climate Research and Services (CRS), Pune.

Dr. M. Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology (DGM), warmly welcomed Dr. Al Mandous and accompanied him during the visit.

Dr. Al Mandous interacted with scientists and officials, reviewed ongoing operational and research activities, and discussed avenues for enhanced international collaboration in climate services and research.

His visit marks a significant step towards strengthening global partnerships in advancing climate science and resilience. 🌎🤝

Dr. M. Mohapatra, DGM IMD reviewed the progress of replacement of mercury based instruments as part of national policy of removal of Hazardous material in the workplace. He also reviewed the progress of automation and modernization of the surface Meteorological Observatory. Shri. Sai Krishnan, Head CRS, Dr.O.P.
