World Mental Health Day 2026

Every year, on 10 October, we observe World Mental Health Day—a day to raise awareness, encourage conversations, and promote greater understanding of mental health.

The theme for World Mental Health Day 2026 is “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change.”

This World Mental Health Day, let us make a commitment to listen—not just to hear, but to understand. Let us create safe and supportive spaces where people can speak about their experiences without fear of judgement or stigma.

People with lived experience have valuable knowledge and insights. Let us involve them in conversations and decisions about mental health services, respect their voices, and recognise their experiences as an important form of expertise.

Most importantly, let us remember that every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion and respect. A listening ear, a kind word and a supportive conversation can make a meaningful difference.

If you or someone you know needs someone to talk to, help is available. 📞 Call 14410, the toll-free Tele-MANAS helpline, to speak with professional counsellors and receive mental health support.

Listen. Understand. Support. Together, let us make every voice heard.

Building Confidence in Immunization Through Community Engagement

On 8 September 2026, a team comprising Dr. R. Laloo, District Immunization Officer (DIO), East Khasi Hills; Dr M. Mero from WHO; and officials and staff from the Office of the DM&HO and Diengiei PHC visited Mawlaingut village under Diengiei PHC to follow up on an adverse event following immunization (AEFI) reported in a pregnant woman after receiving the Td vaccine.

Recognising the concerns that had arisen within the community, the team, in collaboration with the Rangbah Shnong of Mawlaingut, conducted a community meeting to listen to concerns, provide accurate information and strengthen understanding of immunization.

During the interaction, Dr. R. Laloo highlighted the importance of routine immunization and its role in protecting individuals and communities from vaccine-preventable diseases. He also shared examples of how vaccination has helped reduce the burden of diseases such as measles and winter diarrhoea, and recalled the 2009 meningococcal meningitis vaccination campaign, where immunization played an important role in containing the rapid spread of the disease.

Through open dialogue, evidence-based information and community participation, the initiative aims to strengthen trust in immunization and encourage informed participation in routine vaccination programmes.

Immunization protects. Community dialogue builds confidence. Together, we can keep our communities safer.
