October 05: Continuing it sustained drive against illegal mining and transportation of minerals, Shopian Police seized four Tippers and five tractors involved in illegal extraction and transportation of mining material from different areas of the district falling under the jurisdictions of Police Station Shopian, Keller and Police Post Keegam and Berthipora.

The vehicles were found involved in the extraction and transportation of mining material, without valid authorization and in violation of the prescribed norms. Accordingly, the vehicles were seized on the spot and multiple FIRs under relevant provisions of law stand registered at the concerned police stations. Further investigation in the matter has been initiated.

Shopian Police reiterated its firm commitment to protecting the districts natural resources and taking strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities. The general public has been urged to cooperate with the police and report any such unlawful activities. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.

October 5: In a vibrant initiative aimed at youth engagement, empowerment and promotion of sports among girls, Shopian Police today Inaugurated a Girls Badminton Tournament at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Sedow, under the aegis of the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2026–27.

Various teams from different schools are participating in the tournament, showcasing enthusiasm, competitive spirit and sportsmanship. The event witnessed active participation from young girl students and generated considerable enthusiasm among the students and local community.

The tournament provides a meaningful platform for young girls to showcase their sporting talent and encourages them to pursue healthy and constructive activities. The participating teams were encouraged to uphold discipline, sportsmanship, team spirit and fair play throughout the competition.

Shopian Police remains committed to promoting sports and constructive youth engagement as part of its continued efforts towards youth development and building a drug-free and crime-free society. Such initiatives provide young people with opportunities for positive engagement, talent development, confidence building and personality enhancement.

October 03: Shopian Police have arrested a person in connection with a complaint regarding alleged cheating and impersonation involving a social media appeal seeking financial assistance for the treatment of a cancer patient.

The complaint was received on the CUG mobile of Police Station Shopian from Farooq Ahmad Sofi, resident of Manghama, who had published an appeal on social media seeking financial assistance for the treatment of his son, who is undergoing treatment for cancer.

Taking advantage of the appeal, the accused, identified as Umar Shameem Ganie, resident of Memander, Shopian, allegedly posed as an employee of the DC Office, Shopian, and assured the family that he would facilitate financial assistance from the Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, for the treatment of the patient. On this pretext, he allegedly obtained β‚Ή9,999 from the complainant.

The accused was subsequently traced by the complainant in Shopian market, where he allegedly manhandled, intimidated and threatened him.

Accordingly, an e-FIR has been registered at Police Station Shopian and the accused has been arrested.

Preliminary investigation has also brought to light allegations of similar fraudulent activities by the accused against other persons, which are being verified as part of the investigation.

Investigation has been set into motion and further developments will be shared in due course.

Shopian Police urge the general public to remain vigilant against online fraudsters and impersonators, particularly those who misuse genuine requests for financial assistance. The public is advised to verify the identity and credentials of persons claiming to facilitate financial assistance on behalf of government offices or officials and to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.

October 02: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Shopian Police conducted a cleanliness drive at District Police Office (DPO) and District Police Lines (DPL) Shopian and its outer periphery, with active participation of police officers and personnel.

During the drive, police personnel cleaned the office premises, Police Lines, surrounding areas and outer periphery, besides ensuring proper collection and disposal of waste. The initiative was aimed at promoting cleanliness, hygiene, discipline and a sense of civic responsibility among police personnel. The cleanliness drive reflected the timeless message of Mahatma Gandhi on cleanliness and civic responsibility and reinforced the spirit of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Shopian Police continues to encourage cleanliness, environmental responsibility and collective participation, contributing towards a cleaner, healthier and more responsible society.

September 30: Continuing its sustained efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse and illegal substances, Shopian Police arrested two persons and recovered 43 illicit liquor bottles from their possession.

During routine naka checking at Arhama, a police party from Police Station Shopian noticed two persons moving under suspicious circumstances and tactfully apprehended them. During their search, 43 liquor bottles were recovered from their possession. The accused have been identified as Lawaris, son of Suriyaban Chavan, resident of Kanheri Akhola, Maharashtra, and Daramdas Khosla, son of Dhamdhari Khosla, resident of Amantpur Akhloa, Maharashtra, both presently residing at Alyalpora Shopian. Accordingly, FIR No. 204/2026 under the relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source and establish the forward and backward linkages.

September 30: Continuing its efforts to strengthen community-police relations, Shopian Police today organized a Police Community Partnership Group (PCPG) meeting with members of the Gujjar and Bakerwal community at Police Station Keller.

The meeting was attended by members of the Gujjar and Bakerwal community who had undertaken their seasonal migration to different pasture areas of Keller and are presently returning from the higher reaches.

During the interaction, their experiences and observations regarding seasonal movement, conditions in the pasture areas and issues faced during their stay were discussed. The community members were also sensitized to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity noticed during their stay in the higher reaches. The information and feedback shared by the participants were duly noted for further assessment and necessary action.

Shopian Police appreciated the community members for their cooperation and reiterated the importance of continued coordination between the Police and local communities in maintaining peace, security and public safety.

September 30: In order to ensure the health, well-being and fitness of its personnel, Shopian Police today organised a comprehensive medical check-up camp for police personnel of the district at District Police Lines (DPL) Shopian.

During the camp, police personnel were examined by a team of expert doctors and healthcare professionals. The medical team conducted health assessments and provided necessary medical advice and guidance to the personnel.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring the physical well-being and fitness of police personnel, enabling them to remain healthy and fit for the efficient discharge of their duties.

September 30: Shopian Police organised a farewell function to accord a warm send-off to a retiring officer on his superannuation.

Sub-Inspector Mohd Amin was given a heartfelt farewell by all ranks of Shopian Police on attaining the age of superannuation. On the occasion, a simple yet impressive farewell function was held at the DPO Shopian.

Speaking at the event, SSP Shopian lauded the dedication, commitment and exemplary service rendered by the retiring officer throughout his career. He conveyed his best wishes for a healthy, happy and fulfilling post-retirement life and presented a memento as a token of appreciation and respect for his outstanding services.

Moreover, Addl.SP Shopian, DySP DAR Shopian and other police officers were also present on the occasion. They acknowledged the valuable contribution of the outgoing officer to the department and extended their heartfelt wishes for his future endeavors and post-retirement life.
