*Observation of World No To***co Day 2026 through Awareness Rally*
Silchar, May 31, 2026: The District To***co Control Programme (DTCP), under the District Health Society (DHS), Cachar, in collaboration with the District Administration, Cachar, observed World No To***co Day 2026 by organizing an awareness rally under the theme *"Unmasking the Appeal: Countering Ni****ne and To***co Addiction* ."
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from representatives of Cachar Cancer Hospital& Research Centre,Silchar Cancer Centre, Marwari Yuva Manch, Lions Club of Silchar, NCC cadets, Dream Celebration NGO, health officials, and members of the public.
The programme was jointly flagged off by Shri Arunabh Choudhury, ACS, Assistant Commissioner & Executive Magistrate, Cachar, and Dr. Sumona Naiding, Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar.
The event was led by Dr. Anindita Chanda, District Nodal Officer (NTCP); Shri Rahul Ghose, District Programme Manager (NHM); Smt. Piyali Chakraborty, District Programme Coordinator (NCD); and Smt. Mowsumi Bhowmik, Finance and Logistics Consultant (NCD).
The awareness rally aimed to educate the public about the harmful effects of to***co consumption and to expose the tactics used by the to***co industry to make to***co and ni****ne products attractive, particularly to children and young people. Participants carried placards and disseminated key messages promoting a to***co-free lifestyle and emphasizing the importance of protecting future generations from to***co and ni****ne addiction.
Through this initiative, participants reaffirmed their collective commitment to building a to***co-free and healthier society. The observance served as an important reminder of the need for sustained public awareness, community engagement, and collective action to prevent to***co use and safeguard public health.

An orientation program was conducted for students of Golden Valley School, Kalain, on the importance of HPV vaccination. Dr. Sumon Bhoumik, SDM&HO, and Shri Debojeet, BCM of Jalalpur BPHC, created awareness and requested the school authorities to facilitate and support HPV vaccination services at Kalain CHC.
