Padma Shri Awardee Anjanhari Moti Lal Saqi Remembered on 26th Death Anniversary

The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), in collaboration with the National Society for Human Welfare, organized a literary function to commemorate the 26th death anniversary of Anjanhari Moti Lal Saqi at Government Middle School (GMS) Mahnoor, Chadoora, Budgam.
The programme was held under the shade of majestic Chinar trees and witnessed participation from noted literary personalities, poets, artists, intellectuals, students, and local residents.
The event was presided over by Assistant Commissioner Development Srinagar, Mr. Tariq Ahmad Reshi, JKAS, while Chief Education Officer Budgam, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad, attended as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour included ZEO Mr. Jalal-ud-Din and Mr. Peyari Lal.
Dr. Syed Iftikhar Ahmad delivered the welcome address on behalf of the Academy and highlighted the importance of remembering literary figures who have made immense contributions to society, language, and culture.
On the occasion, Syed Riyaz presented a detailed paper on the life and literary contributions of Moti Lal Saqi, with special emphasis on the social concerns and humanitarian vision reflected in his writings.
Dr. Shabnam Rafiq delivered a comprehensive lecture on the literary legacy of Anjanhari Moti Lal Saqi and highlighted his remarkable contribution to the enrichment of Kashmiri language and literature through his writings, research, and cultural activities.
A local resident and childhood friend of the late writer, Abdul Salam Bhat, shared personal memories and experiences associated with Moti Lal Saqi, recalling moments from their youth together.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad appreciated the efforts of the Academy and the collaborating organizations for conducting literary programmes at the grassroots level. He emphasized the need to familiarize younger generations with the lives and contributions of eminent literary personalities such as Moti Lal Saqi.
The cultural segment of the programme featured Assad Anjum, who presented “Kalam-e-Saqi,” which was highly appreciated by the audience. Several poets, writers, artists, and local residents also paid rich tributes to the late literary figure. Prominent among them were M. Yousuf Khan, Arvind Saqi, Fayaz Ahmad, Ferooz Ahmad Shah, Aijaz Ahmad Arfat, M. Qasim Mir, Gulzaar Ahmad Khan, Suhail Rasool, Tajmul Nazir, Muneeb Gulzaar, Gurmeet Singh, and others.
The participants appreciated JKAACL for organizing meaningful literary and cultural programmes in rural areas and for its continued efforts in preserving the rich literary heritage of Kashmir.
The proceedings of the programme, including the vote of thanks, were conducted by Dr. Shabnam Rafiq in a professional and graceful manner.

Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan 2026
The Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) organized an Anti-Drug Cultural Programme at Government Degree College Ganderbal in collaboration with SAATH under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan 2026.
The programme was attended by distinguished guests and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, artists, social activists, and members of civil society.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was DSP Operations Mr. Ravinder Kumar, while the Guests of Honour included SHO Ganderbal Mr. Sajad Asad and Principal Government Degree College Ganderbal, Prof. Fozia Fatima.
The programme commenced with a welcome address and an awareness speech on the harmful effects of drug abuse delivered by Senior Officer JKAACL, Dr. Shabnam Rafiq. In his address, he highlighted the growing threat of substance abuse among youth and emphasized the importance of cultural and literary platforms in spreading awareness and promoting a healthy society.
A powerful anti-drug skit entitled “Nashe Chu Zahar” was presented by the young artists of SAATH, which received great appreciation from the audience for its meaningful message and impactful performance. An anti-drug awareness song was also presented by Sahil Ahmad Party, adding further depth to the campaign against drug abuse.
On the occasion, an anti-drug oath was administered and awareness speeches were delivered by noted social activist Mr. Bilal Ahmad, Principal Prof. Fozia Fatima, and SHO Ganderbal Mr. Sajad Asad. The speakers appreciated the initiative of JKAACL and SAATH and stressed the collective responsibility of society in eradicating the menace of drug addiction.
Academy officials including Ishfaq Ahmad, Reyaz Ahmad, and Gurmeet Singh were also present during the programme. The event was organized under the supervision of Head of SAATH Mr. Reyaz Ahmad, while the proceedings of the programme were conducted by Mr. Shabir Ahmad.
The event concluded with a strong message of social responsibility, awareness, and collective action against drug abuse.
JKAACL Released two Kashmiri books entitled "Saayibaan" by Prof.Farooq Fayaz and "Purkhaash" by Rattan Talashi at Ssminar Hall Academy Complex Lal Mandi Srinagar.
