Hoteliers Association Meets SMC Commissioner; Civic Infrastructure and Sanitation Measures Reviewed

Srinagar, June 03: A delegation of the Hoteliers Association today called on the Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Mr. Faz L*l Haseeb, IAS, and held detailed deliberations on a range of civic, sanitation, and urban service-related issues affecting the hospitality sector across Srinagar.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted concerns regarding sanitation management, waste collection, cleanliness of public spaces, and the need for intensified civic interventions in areas witnessing significant tourist footfall and a high concentration of hotels and guest houses. The members urged the Corporation to undertake focused sanitation drives and strengthen routine civic services in these localities to ensure a cleaner and more welcoming urban environment.

The representatives emphasized that maintaining high standards of sanitation and civic infrastructure is essential not only for the hospitality industry but also for enhancing the overall visitor experience and reinforcing Srinagar’s image as a premier tourist destination.

Giving a patient hearing to the issues raised by the delegation, the Commissioner assured the members that all genuine concerns would be addressed in a time-bound manner. He reiterated SMC’s commitment to providing efficient civic services and maintaining robust sanitation standards across the city.

The Commissioner further stated that the Corporation remains focused on stakeholder engagement and collaborative governance, recognizing the important role of the tourism and hospitality sector in the economic growth of Srinagar. He emphasized that sustained coordination between civic agencies and industry stakeholders is vital for creating a clean, sustainable, and tourist-friendly urban ecosystem.

Senior officers of the Corporation, including Joint Commissioners, the Chief Revenue Officer, concerned Sanitation Officers, and other officials, attended the meeting and took note of the issues and suggestions put forth by the delegation for appropriate follow-up action.

*Commissioner SMC Reviews Progress of AMRUT 2.0 Water Infrastructure Projects, Calls for Timely Completion*

Srinagar, June 02: Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Mr. Faz L*l Haseeb, IAS, today conducted a comprehensive inspection of key water supply infrastructure projects being executed under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme AMRUT 2.0, reviewing the progress of works aimed at strengthening and modernizing Srinagar’s urban water distribution network.

During the inspection, the Commissioner visited the under-construction Overhead Water Tanks (OHTs) at Jenab Sahib, Soura and Behrar Baghwanpora, Lal Bazar, where he assessed the pace of ex*****on, quality standards, and overall physical progress of the projects. He reviewed the status of ongoing civil works and held detailed discussions with engineers and project officials regarding project timelines and implementation challenges.

Emphasizing the strategic importance of the projects, Mr. Haseeb stated that the new water storage infrastructure will substantially improve the city’s water supply system by enhancing storage capacity, strengthening distribution efficiency, and ensuring a more dependable supply of potable water to residents of the beneficiary areas.

The Commissioner directed the executing agencies to accelerate the pace of work and ensure completion of all components within the prescribed timelines without compromising quality. He stressed that timely delivery of public infrastructure projects remains a priority and called for strict adherence to technical specifications and approved project standards.

While interacting with field engineers and officials, Mr. Haseeb underscored the need for robust supervision, regular monitoring, and close inter-departmental coordination to ensure smooth ex*****on of works. He instructed the concerned officers to proactively resolve any bottlenecks and maintain sustained momentum to avoid delays in project completion.

Reaffirming SMC’s commitment to strengthening urban infrastructure under AMRUT 2.0, the Commissioner observed that the scheme is contributing significantly to the development of resilient civic infrastructure and the enhancement of essential public services. He noted that the ongoing investments in water supply infrastructure are expected to deliver long-term benefits by improving service delivery, supporting future urban growth, and enhancing the overall quality of life for citizens.

The inspection was attended by the Joint Commissioner (Works), SMC, Executive Engineers of the Public Health Engineering Department, and other senior officials associated with the implementation of AMRUT 2.0 projects.

SMC Commissioner Reviews NCAP Works Along NH-44, Emphasizes Greenscapes and Air Quality Improvement

Srinagar, June 1: Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Mr. Faz L*l Haseeb, IAS, today conducted an extensive inspection of works being executed under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) along the NH-44 Western Highway Corridor to review the progress of interventions aimed at improving air quality and strengthening environmental sustainability across one of the city’s busiest transportation corridors.

During the inspection, the Commissioner reviewed various ongoing and completed NCAP projects and assessed measures being undertaken to improve the Air Quality Index (AQI) and enhance the urban environment. He emphasized the need for timely completion of all ongoing works and directed the concerned agencies to ensure sustained maintenance of completed assets to achieve long-term environmental benefits.

Highlighting the growing importance of urban greenscapes amid rising temperatures and increasing air pollution levels, Mr. Haseeb stressed the need for developing green corridors, landscape improvements, and plantation initiatives along the highway stretch. He observed that enhanced green infrastructure not only contributes to improving air quality but also plays a vital role in creating a healthier and more resilient urban ecosystem.

The Commissioner directed all stakeholder departments to work in close coordination for effective implementation of NCAP interventions and called for the expedited completion of all pending works. He further underscored the need to integrate environmental considerations into urban infrastructure development to ensure sustainable and climate-responsive growth.

During the visit, detailed discussions were held on future strategies for strengthening air quality management and environmental enhancement measures along NH-44. The Commissioner instructed the concerned officers to identify suitable locations for large-scale plantation drives and landscape development works to further augment the city’s green cover.

The inspection was attended by the Joint Commissioner (Works), SMC, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), SMC, and Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B), Project Division-I, Srinagar, who briefed the Commissioner on the status of various interventions being undertaken under the programme.

Reaffirming SMC’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable urban development, the Commissioner stated that focused efforts under NCAP will continue to be strengthened to ensure cleaner air, improved urban greenscapes, and a better quality of life for the residents of Srinagar.

SMC Bids Farewell to Four Senior Officers on Their Superannuation

Srinagar, May 30: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today organised a farewell ceremony in honour of four of its senior officers—Joint Commissioner (Works) Mr. Shafat Ahmad Khan, Chief Sanitation Officer Mr. Mudasir Ahmad Banday, Executive Engineer Mr. Nisar Ahmad Wangoo, and Executive Engineer Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Nowshehri on their superannuation after years of dedicated service.

The function was presided over by Commissioner SMC, Mr. Faz L*l Haseeb, IAS, and attended by Joint Commissioners,Secretary,Health Officer, Superintending Engineer Drainage, and other senior officers and officials of the Corporation.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner congratulated the retiring officers on the successful completion of their distinguished careers and appreciated their valuable contributions towards strengthening municipal governance, improving civic services, and serving the people of Srinagar. He wished them good health, happiness, and success in their future endeavours.

The retiring officers expressed their gratitude to the SMC administration and their colleagues for their support and cooperation throughout their service. They described their tenure in the Corporation as a rewarding and enriching experience and thanked the staff for their dedication and teamwork.
