~Restoration and Water Flow Management Along Tchunti Khul~

Taking forward the Authority’s efforts to restore and strengthen the water channels associated with Dal Lake, Vice Chairman, JKLCMA, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah, JKAS visited Tchunti Khul and the Dal Lock Gate to review the water flow, hydraulic infrastructure, and condition of the adjoining areas.
The Vice Chairman was accompanied by the Superintending Engineer, Executive Engineers of Lake Division 1st and Lake Division 2nd, and other officers and officials of the Authority.
During the visit, the Vice Chairman took a detailed assessment of the existing condition of Tchunti Khul and the Dal Lock Gate and reviewed the water channel, adjoining stretches, and associated hydraulic infrastructure. He stressed the importance of maintaining the channel in a manner that facilitates smooth movement of water and supports effective water level management of Dal Lake.
The Vice Chairman directed the concerned officers to undertake necessary cleanliness and site clearance measures along Tchunti Khul and its adjoining stretches. He called for identification of locations requiring desilting, dredging, removal of obstructions, and other restoration measures so that necessary works can be taken up in a systematic and time bound manner.
Reviewing the Dal Lock Gate, the Vice Chairman emphasized the need for its proper upkeep and functioning to ensure effective regulation of water flow. He directed the Engineering Wing to assess the condition of the lock gate and associated infrastructure and identify the works required for repair, restoration, and improvement.
The Vice Chairman further directed the concerned officers to undertake a comprehensive assessment of Tchunti Khul and identify measures required to improve its water carrying capacity, cleanliness, and overall environmental condition. He stressed that restoration of the channel should be undertaken with due consideration to its ecological importance and its role in the water management network of Dal Lake.
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining the associated water channels of Dal Lake, the Vice Chairman stated that restoration and proper upkeep of such channels are essential for maintaining water flow, supporting effective water management, and strengthening the long term conservation of the lake.

Beautification of Dole Demb
Vice Chairman, JKLCMA, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah, JKAS, today conducted an extensive inspection of the Dole Demb area to review the existing condition of the water body and its surrounding areas and assess the scope for beautification and development of the site.
The Vice Chairman was accompanied by the Superintending Engineer, Collector Land Acquisition, FA&CAO, Executive Engineers of Lake Division 1st and Lake Division 2nd, Technical Officer, Assistant Executive Engineers, Junior Engineers, and other officers and officials of the Authority.
Emphasizing the importance of developing the site in a planned and sustainable manner, the Vice Chairman directed that the beautification proposal should incorporate modern landscaping, suitable plantation, improved pathways, aesthetic features, and other necessary amenities. He stressed that the area should be developed as a state of the art public space while maintaining the ecological character of the water body. He observed that the development of Dole Demb would also contribute towards enhancing the overall tourism potential of the area and attract more visitors to Dal Lake.
The Vice Chairman directed the concerned officers to immediately undertake bush cutting along the site and carry out other necessary site clearance works to improve the overall appearance and accessibility of the area, so that further dredging and restoration works in the Dole Demb area can be taken up. He further instructed the Engineering Wing to prepare detailed estimates for the proposed beautification and development works at Dole Demb.
The Vice Chairman further directed the concerned officers to ensure close coordination among the Engineering, Revenue, and field wings so that the proposed works are planned and executed in a time bound manner. He emphasized that the development should focus on environmental improvement while enhancing the visual appeal and overall utility of the area for tourism.
Reiterating the Authority's commitment towards the conservation and beautification of water bodies and their surrounding areas, the Vice Chairman stated that LCMA will continue to undertake integrated conservation, restoration, and development measures to improve urban water bodies and create clean, attractive, and environmentally sustainable spaces for the public and tourists. He emphasized that such initiatives would also contribute towards strengthening the tourism potential of Dal Lake and its adjoining areas.

Vice Chairman, JKLCMA Reviews Rakh-i-Arth Rehabilitation Colony, Directs Improved Facilities, Strict Monitoring and Action Against Encroachments

The Vice Chairman, JKLCMA, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah, JKAS, visited the Rakh-i-Arth Rehabilitation Colony to review the overall arrangements, infrastructure and facilities being provided for the rehabilitation of Dal dwellers.
During the visit, the Vice Chairman inspected various areas of the colony and reviewed the status of cleanliness, sanitation, civic facilities, infrastructure and overall maintenance. He also interacted with residents and took note of their concerns and suggestions regarding the facilities and services available in the colony.
The Vice Chairman directed the concerned officers and field staff to conduct regular inspections of the colony and adjoining areas and remain vigilant against encroachments, unauthorized constructions and any misuse of Authority land. He stressed the need for timely verification of such instances and appropriate action as per the applicable rules.
He further directed the officers to ensure proper cleanliness, sanitation and maintenance of civic facilities and to address the genuine concerns of residents in a timely manner. He emphasized that regular field supervision and coordinated efforts are essential for maintaining the colony and its infrastructure.
The Vice Chairman also reviewed the ongoing works and directed the concerned field staff to ensure timely ex*****on and proper upkeep of the facilities.
The Vice Chairman was accompanied by the Executive Engineer, LD-II, Enforcement Officer (DySP), AEEs, JEs and other field officials of JKLCMA, who briefed him about the existing arrangements, ongoing works and various issues concerning the rehabilitation colony.

Vice Chairman JKLCMA Inspects Ashai Bagh, Directs Strengthening of Lake Cleaning Measures
The Vice Chairman, J&K Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (JKLCMA), Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah, JKAS, today visited the Ashai Bagh area to review the ongoing cleaning and maintenance works being carried out in and around the lake.
During the inspection, the Vice Chairman reviewed the cleanliness of the area and took stock of the ongoing works related to lake cleaning, conservation and maintenance. He appreciated the improvement in the cleanliness and overall appearance of the area following the cleaning activities undertaken by the Authority.
The Vice Chairman was accompanied by the SE, Collector, XEN LD-I, AEEs, JEs and other Revenue and Engineering officials of JKLCMA. The officers briefed him about the ongoing works and the measures being implemented for effective conservation and management of the lake.
He also directed the concerned officers and field staff to continue the ongoing cleaning activities and ensure proper upkeep of the lake and its adjoining areas. He stressed the need for regular field supervision and timely ex*****on of the works.

VC LCMA Reviews Ground Progress of Gilsar Lake Restoration Works, Stresses Sustained Field Monitoring
Vice Chairman, J&K LCMA, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah, JKAS, today conducted a follow up inspection of Gilsar Lake and adjoining areas to review the progress of conservation, protection, and restoration measures.
The Vice Chairman was accompanied by senior officers and field functionaries of LCMA, including Collector Land Acquisition, Executive Engineers Mechanical Div /LD Ist, AEEs, JEs, Naib Tehsildar, and other concerned officers and officials.
During the visit, the Vice Chairman reviewed ongoing field interventions and assessed the progress of dredging, cleaning and restoration works at various vulnerable locations.
He directed the concerned officers to maintain close field level monitoring and ensure timely completion of ongoing works through coordinated efforts of the Engineering, Revenue, and field wings.
Reviewing the condition of the water body, the Vice Chairman stressed the need to intensify cleaning and restoration activities and ensure effective utilization of available machinery and resources.
He also directed the Engineering Wing to expedite measures for securing vulnerable stretches and stressed regular surveillance to prevent encroachment, dumping, and other unauthorized activities.
The Vice Chairman reiterated that sustained field interventions and continuous monitoring are essential for the effective protection and restoration of Gilsar Lake and directed all concerned officers to ensure visible progress on the ground.

VC LCMA Takes Stock of Special Cleanliness Operations Ahead of J&K’s Pioneering 1st International Film Festival.
The Vice Chairman, JKLCMA, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah, JKAS, today conducted a follow-up on-site inspection of the ongoing special cleanliness operations around SKICC and Lalit Ghat, taking stock of the progress made since his previous inspection in connection with the forthcoming 1st International Film Festival, scheduled to be held from September 7 to 10, 2026.
The Vice Chairman was accompanied by Collector LCMA (Nodal Officer), XEN LD 1st, Scientists and other officers during the inspection.
During the visit, the Vice Chairman took stock of the progress of the special cleanliness drive and inspected the ongoing work being carried out by the field staff and deployed machinery for the removal of aquatic w**ds and floating material from the designated areas.
He reviewed the deployment and functioning of the Harvesters and Water Master engaged in the cleanliness drive and assessed the progress of w**d removal and cleaning activities around SKICC and Lalit Ghat.
Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah emphasized the need to sustain the cleanliness and maintenance standards achieved through the ongoing operations and ensure their continued upkeep throughout the festival period, in keeping with the stature of the pioneering international event.

JKLCMA Intensifies Cleanliness Drive Ahead of J&K’s 1st International Film Festival.

The Vice Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Lake Conservation and Management Authority (JKLCMA), Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah, JKAS, today undertook an extensive on-site assessment of the areas around SKICC and Lalit Ghat in connection with the forthcoming 1st International Film Festival, scheduled to be held from September 7 to 10, 2026.
The Vice Chairman was accompanied by Collector LCMA, Nodal Officer, and other senior officers during the inspection.
During the visit, the Vice Chairman reviewed the cleanliness and overall maintenance of the designated areas and directed the concerned field staff to undertake necessary cleaning measures on priority. He stressed the need to ensure that the surroundings of SKICC and Lalit Ghat remain clean, well-maintained and presentable ahead of the international event.
For the special cleanliness drive, four machines, including three harvesters and one Water Master, have been deployed. The machinery will facilitate the removal of aquatic w**ds and other floating material, thereby improving the overall appearance and water surface conditions around the designated areas.
The Vice Chairman called for timely completion of all cleanliness-related measures and emphasized sustained monitoring of the area to maintain high standards throughout the festival period.
The JKLCMA has reiterated its commitment to ensuring clean and well-maintained surroundings at the venues and adjoining areas, in view of the participation of national and international guests in the 1st International Film Festival.

Vice Chairman, JKLCMA, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah, JKAS, conducted a tour of the Hazratbal area to review the arrangements and preparedness ahead of the forthcoming Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAWW). The Vice Chairman was accompanied by the Superintending Engineer, Executive Engineers, XEN LD-II and Mechanical Division, along with all concerned AEEs and JEs.
During the visit, the Vice Chairman reviewed the functioning of the Intermediate Pumping Stations (IPSs) at Nigeen and Saderbal and directed the concerned officers to ensure their smooth and uninterrupted operation.
He also inspected the areas affected by water blockage and choking of drains and directed the concerned staff to undertake immediate clearance measures to ensure proper drainage and prevent water accumulation.
The issue of leakage in the parking area near the Hazratbal Shrine was also reviewed. The Vice Chairman directed the concerned officers to take necessary corrective measures at the earliest.
He further inspected the ablution pond and directed the concerned staff to ensure its thorough cleaning and proper maintenance before the Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrations.
The Vice Chairman also directed the field staff to maintain cleanliness and proper upkeep of the Hazratbal lakefront, particularly in view of the expected gathering of devotees and visitors during the occasion.
Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah emphasized that all identified issues should be addressed on priority and directed the concerned officers and field staff to ensure proper cleanliness, drainage, sanitation and maintenance in and around the Hazratbal area during the occasion.

The Vice Chairman, JKLCMA, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah, JKAS, today undertook an extensive on-site assessment of Dal Lake to take stock of the ongoing cleaning and conservation activities being carried out by the Authority.
During the inspection, the Vice Chairman visited various locations of Dal Lake, particularly the Gagribal Basin, and took stock of the progress of the ongoing cleaning activities on site. He reviewed the deployment of manpower and machinery, including Watermasters, harvesters, and grabbers, and assessed the effectiveness of the measures being undertaken for the removal of w**ds, aquatic vegetation, accumulated waste, and other floating material from different sections of the lake.
During the field inspection, the Vice Chairman identified specific locations for the deployment of the hired lake cleaning machinery. He directed the concerned officers to ensure that the machinery is deployed at the identified spots in a planned and effective manner to intensify the ongoing lake cleaning operations.
Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah emphasized the need for a systematic and area-specific approach to lake cleaning, with priority being given to locations experiencing heavy w**d infestation and excessive accumulation of aquatic vegetation. He particularly directed that focused cleaning measures be undertaken in the area around SKICC and Lalit Ghat where the 1st International Film Festival is scheduled to be held from 07.09.2026 to 10.09.2026, ensuring that the designated area is adequately cleaned and maintained in advance of the event.
He directed the field staff and concerned officers to maintain close monitoring of the cleaning operations and ensure that the machinery remains operational and is utilized to its optimum capacity. He also called for regular assessment of the cleaned areas to prevent re-accumulation of w**ds and waste.
Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah reiterated the Authority's commitment towards the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of Dal Lake and stressed that all ongoing interventions should be carried out with due regard to the ecological character of the lake.
