"A story of Community, Convergence and Change"
As part of the field assessment of PRI-CBO Convergence Universalisation, our mentor resource person recently visited Bolung Primary School in Roing Circle, Lower Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh. During her interactions with the headmistress, teachers, and students, she uncovered a significant challenge: the school was struggling with a water shortage, which was preventing them from serving midday meals to the children.
After discussing the problem with members of the Local Resource Group (LRG) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Bolung village, the SHG members took ownership of the issue and resolved to address it promptly. SHG members from Miggabona, along with the Midum Primary Level Federation (PLF) in Bolung, swiftly organized an emergency meeting to discuss the situation and formulate an action plan. Following this, the PLF prepared an application and approached the Deputy Commissioner to request immediate assistance.
Upon learning of the issue, the Deputy Commissioner promptly engaged the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to resolve the water shortage in Bolung. The PHED team responded swiftly, and soon the school received a steady water supply, allowing them to resume midday meals for the students.
This initiative by the SHG women not only addressed an immediate issue but also demonstrated the potential and capability of CBOs in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level by ensuring clean water and fostering a child-friendly village environment. The SHG women’s dedication made a real difference, and their work contributed to a healthier, more supportive environment for the children of Bolung.
Smt. Easter Pertin, the headmistress, expressed her gratitude, acknowledging how essential the SHG network had become for the village’s growth and well-being. She highlighted how their commitment and swift action not only helped the children but also showed the strength of the Convergence and Collective action of Community.
The story of Bolung is one among many, underscoring the power of CBOs in creating change. Across India, Self-Help Groups, Village Organizations, and local federations are coming together to address challenges and seize opportunities, building a stronger foundation for sustainable development in their communities. Through the PRI-CBO Convergence we are stepping forward for Sustainable Communities.

A Tribute to Collaborative Governance
India's diverse governance landscape, encompassing two-tier and three-tier Panchayati Raj structures and village councils, is a testament to its rich cultural tapestry. The PRI-CBO Convergence Project effectively navigates this diversity, fostering collaboration between local self-government institutions and community-based organizations.
Self-help groups (SHGs) of women are playing a pivotal role in strengthening local governance by actively engaging with local self-government institutions. Simultaneously, State Rural Livelihoods Missions (SRLMs) and Kudumbashree NRO are facilitating this convergence, empowering communities and driving development.
This video is a heartfelt tribute to all the stakeholders—NRLM, SRLMs, CBOs, LSGIs, and delegates—whose invaluable contributions have made this collaborative effort a reality.
